It pays to be nice to your bartender. The last thing you want to do is upset the man or woman standing between you and your precious booze, especially when you're already competing for attention in a crowded bar.

Luckily, bartenders aren't the fragile sort. Dealing with hardcore drinkers and rowdy after-work crowds has given most mixologists a thick skin, like that of the oranges and lemons they're so fond of zesting and slipping into our old-fashioneds. But they're still human, and they're very much capable of getting ticked off — and that's when your service might really start to suffer.

Don't agree with flagging down thing.  If you make yourself stand out in a crowd, you are more likely to get served first or quicker.  Just my experience and human nature (I don't mean snapping).

If you're a good tipper, you can snap fingers and flag as much as you want, they'll be there in a heartbeat.. That's my experience.. 

 

Plus if you tip well, sometimes you get "the long pour"..

I think there is a better way to ask like do you have any specials.  Not cheapest drink.

I guess. most specials aren't exactly good deals though. I normally always get rum and coke but I'll ask for the cheapest shot if I'm buying shots for anyone.

Exactly.  If you're taking care of them, they'll take care of you.

I apply this anytime I go somewhere from my usual spots. If you tip well on your first drink the bartender seems to remember that and your next drink will be hooked up.

I've always been a good tipper regardless of the fact. I used to work in the restaurant industry so I know how important those tips are. But it definitely won't hurt your cause (and buzz) to go above and beyond the normal tip every now and again.
