Would Khalil Mack in the top 5 feel like a "Gene Smith type of pick"?

Quote:Yes, absolutely.

Mack after a trade down, I'm okay with. Mack at 3 reeks of Alualu all over again.

Alualu wasnt considered a top 3 talent much less top 10.

Quote:As in, a wasted pick?

Paraphrasing, but he thinks he's a 3rd down player in the Jaguars defense (not sure if he meant just 1st year or not), and too small against the run.  But I think it was a general value issue.

Quote:Yikes... which scenerio here is better. Assuming we can't make any trades and stay at #3 and #39

Mack and Garropolo/Mettenberg

Bridgewater and Dee Ford/Van Noy
This one, no hesitation.

I think Mack will be good, but I think he's getting a little overhyped.  Personally I hope if Clowney is gone at 3, we're able to trade down unless Caldwell feels a QB is worth it at 3 -- and I don't think he does.

Bridgewater and Scott Crichton/Dee Ford.  Not a fan of Garropolo at all.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Things don't need to be identical for the concept to be seen as similar.

Mack at 3 would be taking a player that should go around 10, 11, or 12 ish.

You think there are 9,10, 11 players better than Mack in this class?

In whose eyes is Mack projected as #10 value besides yours? Who are the 9 players everyone has ranked over him? Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel, Watkins, Matthews, Robinson, Clowney... and??? And thats with me stretching it. He's the consensus 2nd best defensive player.

Quote:I think Mack is going to be a Terrell Suggs type player. He'll average about 8 sacks a year and make a few other disruptive plays like forced fumbles and interceptions.

Now whether that's worth the third pick of the draft is up for debate. I wouldn't mind it but we would need to still land a playmaking WR at some point early in the draft then.

I think this is a pretty good take right here....

Good player, no doubt, but selecting that at 3??.... ehhhh, .....

Ware per comparison, has been double digit QB sacks perennially (minus last year) and topped out as high as what? 20 for one season??

Mack will never sniff 15 QB sacks in a season, let alone 20.

Mack can bring the play making ability that can take him to a higher level in this league. "Can", being the key word.. I think Mack is great fit for this team, but at 3, I can see that being a reach.. I can't see him playing up to that 3rd pick.

I think the CB from Ok. state will be a better player at his position as a pro than Mack will be at his as well. Possibly Barr too. (as a pass rusher)

If the Jaguars knew Mack would turn into Terrell Suggs they'd take him at 3 in heartbeat, 100 career sacks with a DPOY award to his name. I'll take it.

Not if Bridgewater/ Manziel are franchise level QB, and Matthews is a HOF caliber Offensive Tackle.

Suggs has 100 career sacks, and a DPOY award, he's a legit hall of famer. If Khalil Mack offers the production Suggs has had over the years he's definitely worth the 3rd overall pick.

You can create this hypothetical argument against drafting anyone.  Really carries no weight.

Thats selling the other players in this draft short....what if they're better (at their positions than that in the NFL??) Then, NO you wouldn't want the above over them. The above would be fine if the rest of the top 10 flops.

If Mack is Ware or Suggs then you take him at 3.  I just don't see it when I watch him play.

I'll give you Bridgewater and Manziel, if they are true franchise changing QB's, theres not a more important position in sports. I'd much rather take a defensive player that offers Terrell Suggs like pass rush ability than a HOF offensive tackle, as Terrell Suggs is a hall of famer in himself.
