i would rather have mack then ansah, mingo, or jarvis jones last year. as well as over irvin, poe, or fletcher cox in 2012, von miller and aldon smith went in the top 7 in 2011 and mack is a better prospect than both of those players. 

the only situation in which i would consider taking clowney over him this year (mainly i have issues with his work ethic) but i think he is a pure 4-3 DE. i think clowney is too stiff to fit the role of the LEO and would be sort of a tweener in this defense.

I could see the team do exactly that, although I tend to think that the more likely scenario is to counter Clowney going to Houston by grabbing Mack. I would really hate to see them take another tackle in the first round, but there is some way to justify the move if they actually did so.
