New York Times article on Jameis Winston

(This post was last modified: 04-22-2014, 07:43 PM by badger.)

Quote:"Innocent until proven guilty."

The phrase is so out of place today. Someone comes out and says ______ raped them and then everyone suddenly hates ________ as if he were some sort of demonspawn.

I understand TPD screwed up the case, but that doesn't mean we can assume things, does it? A cover up or lack of investigation from the school is certainly problematic, but no more problematic than someone coming out and saying they were raped by a famous celebrity.

Let's face it, everyone has an ulterior motive that stays behind closed doors nowadays.
Ya I agree false accusations are a problem. The problem here is that FSU and TPD waited until after the season was over to have a formal investigation. By that time evidence was lost and Jameis lawyered up.

Quote:Maybe look into it... derp. It seems they were fine with letting it go unnoticed.

It involved one of their players. They have a responsibility to investigate. That is why FSU is currently under investigation. Where it happened is irrelevant.

Id say considering it took them a year to do anything about this, the ruling by this investigation team will not be good.
<p style="background-color:transparent;margin:0px 0px .5em 1.5em;">

<p style="background-color:transparent;margin:0px 0px .5em 1.5em;">"In the case examined by The Times involving Jameis Winston, no university official outside the Victim Advocate Program received a report from any complainant naming Winston prior to when the allegations were made public in November 2013."

<p style="background-color:transparent;margin:0px 0px .5em 1.5em;">

<p style="background-color:transparent;margin:0px 0px .5em 1.5em;">What does that mean? It means the accuser never filed a complaint against Winston with FSU. In order for Title IX responsibilities to kick in, an official with a high enough position at the university to be considered a decision maker has to be made aware that there is an allegation of sexual harassment or assault that was made by a student against a student/teacher/employee. So when the officials in the athletic department were made aware that Winston had been named a suspect, if they were not informed that the alleged victim was a student, they would not have responsibilities under Title IX.

<p style="background-color:transparent;margin:0px 0px .5em 1.5em;">But again, I'm sure they did their best to sweep it under the rug.

They waited because the accuser originally wasn't going to pursue the case.

They knew about it in Jan 2013. We will see what the investigation says.

According to the FSU fan who waited two months to file a report and never notified the accuser that the case was closed.

If an FSU official statement said we live in the eye of a blue-eyed giant, would you believe it?

Totally.

Quote:Ya lets put it all on the police. You really think FSU is blameless?

I don't know. I'll let you be the judge of that. FSU doesn't try rape cases and it was off campus so I would put most of the blame on TPD since they are the police.

That's what most of your Gainesville women look like. Hence the name Hogtown.

Easy now. Having spent a lot of time in Gainesville over the years, the women there are hardly hoggish.

Unless we're including that thing in sunglasses behind them, I think he's correct in saying three of the five are busted.
