Thinking about it you're probably right. Their are few non-QB players that interest me in the first round other than Mack, Clowney, and Watkins; and these three may not even make it out of the top 5.

 

If the Jags trade down and get the QB they wanted, their isn't much reason to trade back in. Unless they were targeting a guy like Eric Ebron?

I don't see anyone trading anything significant for anyone other than Clowney.  There are too many options after Clowney that it would be hard to see anyone wanting to move up for anyone but him.  Instead, teams are likely to simply go another route with so much to choose from after him.

I don't see anyone trading anything significant for anyone other than Clowney.  There are too many options after Clowney that it would be hard to see anyone wanting to move up for anyone but him.  Instead, teams are likely to simply go another route with so much to choose from after him.

 

If Clowney is on the board, the Jags most likely draft him.  I could see them sitting on the phone for 9 minutes trying to cook up a deal, but in the end, I think they'd prefer to have him on their roster. 

 

I still think there are players other teams may be willing to trade up to get, and if Clowney is off the board before Jacksonville is on the clock, they're going to be getting calls from teams looking to move up.

I don't think Ebron would last into the 2nd round.  I couldn't see him falling past 20 to be honest.

 

Maybe if they got the QB first, I could maybe see them trading up for a Dee Ford or Ryan Shazier.

I just get a completely different vibe from this group. 

 

Everyone wanted Gene Smith to succeed because he wasn't Shack Harris, he'd been recommended by Tom Coughlin, and he'd reportedly been the lone voice that was opposed to some of the bigger mistakes made during the Harris tenure.  In the end, he made the Shack days seem like the good old days.  Good scout.  Lousy GM. 

 

This group comes across as extremely competent.  Until they show otherwise, I'm confident they'll be making smart decisions in the draft, and with their free agency moves.  Their decision making process just makes sense in comparison to what we've seen in the past. 

 

One of the things I like about this group is the acknowledged need for playmakers and willingness to "swing for the fences," as opposed to the base hit philosophy of Gene Smith.

 

I've liked the way they've approached free agency and the draft thus far.

 

I like they haven't seemed to be swayed by the masses and, for that matter, Shad Khan's whims (Tebow).

 

I have a good feeling going into this draft.  I think we can help ourselves a great deal.

It's for all of the reasons above that I have a good feeling about this front office/regime.  It's clear they have a plan, and they're not going to deviate from it.  They're not going to shy away from big ticket players if they feel they're a good fit for this roster.  They're also not going to be pressured into going after players that aren't a good fit here for the sake of selling tickets.

 

This draft will be telling.

In other words, you're going to wait until it's almost too obvious who they're going after, then you'll make your picks, minus any critical evaluation because they're your picks.  So, basically, this will be your puffy little mock draft setting up a year of whining when they don't pick any of your guys.
