Most Neglected Positions In Jaguar Drafts

#1

What positions do you think the Jags have neglected the most throughout their draft history? I can think of 2 or 3 off the top of my head. I'm just wondering if my thoughts are the same as everyone else.

I had a tough time with the #1, but I'm going to go against the grain and say that it's linebacker. This team has never really targeted any stud linebackers in the draft. They have rarely seen superior play from that position as well over the years. It's been one of the nagging weak points of this team for far too long.

The second would have to be QB, but not so much for a lack of trying, but how they went about it. They always tried the quick fix by grabbing one high without enough certainty that the player could be "the guy" for the next several years. Happened with Lefty and again with Gabbert. The only 2 real developmental guys they took were Rob Johnson and David Garrard. I hope that trend ends this draft. I would love to see some young guys brought in to sit, learn, and develop. What I hope doesn't happen is the same reach and grab that got us Lefty and Gabbert.

My third is pass rushers. Whether it be a DE or a pass rushing LB. They took shots with a guy here and there, but never found one. I think that given more attention, they would have found that guy.

Last, I would say interior offensive line. Meester was rock solid in the fact that he was always there, and never injured. He covered a huge hole in the interior for a very long time. Had he gone down, The line would have been that much worse. There have been some guards, with Manauwai leading the bunch, but also not many mid to late round developmental guys. I hope they use some of these later picks to change that.

Those are mine.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

LB and QB.

This team has not drafted QBs nearly as often as they should.

I would say QB by a wide margin. I think QB is a position that you should regularly take a late round flier on though.

Also because I think LB was ignored in part because JDR thought he could turn anyone into a serviceable to good LB.

QB number 1 easy

QB.

We haven't even drafted many late-rounders or "developmental" guys.

I mean no wonder our QB situation sucks.

QB easily takes the cake. Remember that before we took Gabbert, we hadn't taken a QB in a draft at all since Byron Leftwich. So in the last eleven years, we've picked two QBs.

Neglected going after a QB because we thought they had our guy (passing up on Big Ben to get Reggie Williams /// passing on everyone because Gabbert was our Guy)

Neglected everything because Gene went top 4 picks on the Dline (Alualu, D'Anthony Smith, Hart, Lane) -- 2010

With the exception of last year, we neglected Safety unless you think taking a dude from Wyoming in round 4 is satisfactory.

Neglected Center because we thought the 68 year old guy with a torn bicep would be sufficient for another few years.

Neglected LB but we were able to go get the wrong Brandon Marshall.

We should have drafted a QB every year after drafting Leftwich.  We didn't, until Gabbert.

That was when we thought we had our guy.
