Would Khalil Mack in the top 5 feel like a "Gene Smith type of pick"?

IMO, they are the two to choose from if Clowney is gone. Matthews being the next and probably only alternative to me (not counting trading out for a nice ransom.)

Quote:Ever heard of perspective? No, duece had a valid point. People are willing to bend their principles when its a player they want, like Mack here....but its a similar kinda player that they bashed Gene for selecting. Hypocrisy.
Quote:No, duece had a valid point. Assuming the same people complaining about "small school" Gene are also advocating for Mack? Again...perspective. Quote:No, duece had a valid point. Alualu was from Cal, Gabbert was from Mizzou, Blackmon was from Ok State. So it isn't hypocrisy, its ignorance and a misnomer. In reality, taking a small school guy would actually be the exact opposite of what Gene did. So people should probably get that straight.

The draft is more than one round, and Gene took several small school players in the 2nd round & later...just stop spinning the truth here. Gene didn't have that rep for nothing.

Pac10 and ACC. You're wrong. Quote:The draft is more than one round, and Gene took several small school players in the 2nd round & later...just stop spinning the truth here. ummmm everyone takes small school players in the later rounds. the studs are usually from big schools so round 1 is usually full of big school guys, and the sprinkled in 1 or 2 from small schools. then later in the draft, you pull talent from wherever talent is. thats the way it works for everyone.

Quote:Well, we (he) gave up a future SECOND rounder to select Cox, so..... Even if you count that which is a stretch to say the least. That's 1 small school player in the top 2 rounds of 4 drafts.

(and its not a stretch - Gene had to give a 2nd rounder - and one that turned out to be high, in exchange for Cox. Then theres Rackley in the 3rd...

Quote:Oh, so only the top 2 rounds count? lol. And it really has nothing to do with Khalil Mack
Quote:You're the one that said "2nd round" and later Yep, sorry Charlie, but when you trade a 2nd rounder to acquire Cox, you're essentially using the 2nd rounder on him. So yes, 2nd round and later.
Quote:And it really has nothing to do with Khalil Mack No, its the comparison to a "Gene Smith kinda pick". Try to keep up.
Quote:No, its the comparison to a "Gene Smith kinda pick". Gene Smith never drafted a player in the first or second round from a non-BCS conference. Try to keep up. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Gene's biggest problem was that he reached badly for players he wanted, specifically small school players. He didn't really draft a disproportionate amount of small school players. He was just playing the smartest man in the room role. The board kind of latched on to the small school thing and railed every time he drafted a small school player.
Again, Mack is nothing like Alualu. Mack, as proven, has value between 3-5. He is not a reach. A Gene Smith pick would be Bradley Roby at #3 and then a trade up to draft a player most people didn't even have on their boards in the 2nd or 3rd round. Quote:Oh, so only the top 2 rounds count? lol. (and its not a stretch - Gene had to give a 2nd rounder - and one that turned out to be high, in exchange for Cox. you love the eagles right? how about danny watkins in the first from baylor? then the second round pick from temple, third round pick from utah st in 2011. second round pick from marshall in 2012. thats just the first team i looked at and took me 4 seconds. was that a triple lutz? #brianboitano

Quote:Gene Smith never drafted a player in the first or second round from a non-BCS conference. OK, keep pretending that trading a 2nd rounder away to draft Derek Cox isn't using a 2nd rounder on him, lol.... smh |
