Quote:YEAH! Grrrrrr, I'm not comfortable with my own sexuality so I'm going to overcompensate by driving a massive pick-up and treating women like crap to show everyone just how much of a macho man I really am! Quote:I know, but I met another one of these braindead specimens today and it never fails to amuse how terribly they hide their insecurities.Well, geez. Don't take it out on me brotha! Don't let others affect your day. They may be morons or morally wrong but you don't have to let them ruin your day. Live YOuR day! Not theirs.
Quote:Well, geez. Don't take it out on me brotha! He didn't affect my day beyond the amusement and the slight boost in self esteem once I realized I wasn't anything like the neanderthal.

Quote:I'm curious to what this man did. Can you explain to us what happened today? He refused to lift his pinky while sipping latte. Dutch rednecks are so uncouth.
Quote:He refused to lift his pinky while sipping latte. Dutch rednecks are so uncouth. The nerve of that man!! Pinky etiquette should be of the utmost importance. I'm surprised DF didn't give him a shiny warning. Or at the very least a swift kick in the groin. He's certainly a better man than I.
Ok peasants! So, I've started my 4 day weekend like most of you. So, I decided to slow cook a brisket!! Mmmmm. I've slow cooked/smoked every meat imaginable. But, this is my first brisket. ...and I gotta say, it was pretty tough. The taste was good. But man, not tender in the least bit. Any of you know a good brisket recipe? I've googled many of ways and they all seemed to be along the boston butt line. So I cooked it like I would one of them. That was pretty crappy advice. So, how's it done?

Quote:When you say slow cook, how slow are we talking? Usually at 250 or possibly below, depending on the meat.
Quote:Usually at 250 or possibly below, depending on the meat. How long, I mean.
Quote:How long, I mean. For this brisket I did it for 5 and a half hours. I had a small 7 lb brisket. I cooked it to an internal temp of 195 after combining what I read online about them. I hit the plateau period for a little longer than expected. Reminded me just like a Boston butt.

They pulled apart easily with forks to make sammiches. You may have just gotten a tough piece of meat. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I'm thinking so. Next time I'll go to tillmans meats. I got this one from publix. That was the only thing I could have thought of as well. It's nice to hear it from someone else. This one was so tough, I really have no desire to get another one. But, if I quit after failing once in the past I've never made it this far. I'm no expert, but this sure isn't my first rodeo. I'll try again with hopefully a better quality. But, hey, I had fun drinking beer and smelling my smoker do all the hard work!!!

I think I've read about the same exact stuff through other sites. I'm with you, I think it was a quality of meat issue. Mine must have been too lean making it tougher. Just looking at it at the store I thought it was marbled enough. But that's just relative to what I'm used to I guess. Being my first brisket I had to learn somehow. I'll try it again in two weeks. I have family coming in. If it turns out good they will be impressed. If it turns out bad, maybe I won't have to see them for another 2 years...
