Mike Mayock: I wouldn’t use a first-round pick on Teddy Bridgewater

Quote:“I would say in general, tape is worth about 85 percent of an overall grade, and the rest of the process is set up for red flags, and to go back and watch more tape to try to confirm what you saw or didn’t see,” Mayock said. “I saw about four of his tapes prior to the combine, and I really liked him. I thought he had a chance to be a franchise quarterback from what I saw on the tape. . . . Except you’ve got to see the quarterbacks throw the ball live. I’ve never seen a top-level quarterback in the last 10 years have a bad pro day, until Teddy Bridgewater. He had no accuracy, the ball came out funny, the arm strength wasn’t there, and it made me question everything I saw on tape because this was live.” Thoughts?

Mayock already got the raking over the coals on twitter that he deserved for such a laughable take earlier today. Let's just say that the reputation of the formerly great Mike Mayock was already in a freefall over the last few years, and it might have crashed and burned this year.
It's funny that talking heads say pro days aren't important, but then when a prospect has a bad one their entire body of work is put into question. By his numbers, 85% of the evaluation is the tape. So what is the point of anything else? The impact of any other evaluation would have only a marginal effect on a prospect's draft stock.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Just an over analysis. Mayock loved gabbert and alualu.

Nothing these players do (outside of character concerns) will affect their draft stock. Teddy Bridgewater will be taken where he should be taken, by the team that wants him....
Whether thats means top 10 pick, or late first remains to be seen. But I still think he will be taken in the 1st round, but wouldn't be shocked if he fell to the 2nd.
Lol so before the pro day he was a candidate for first overall according to Mayock...now he's not even a first rounder?

Quote:Like I said before, this Quote:Also this: To be fair, Mayock and the rest of the talking heads are probably the best in the business. Their predictions are on "odds". If they were right 100% of the time, there would never be any speculation and drafts wouldn't be as exciting as they are today. As for his analysis of Gabbert, a lot of the gurus had Gabbert as their favorite. Sometimes things don't pan out like they should. How Gabbert ended up so horrid, is really up for debate in my opinion. What's the chances of him just being naturally awful? What's the chances of him playing as poorly because he never really got the chance to sit behind and learn from a true experienced QB? Never really know what his problem was. Just glad he's not our problem anymore and I'm glad we cut ties when we did..
Quote:Just an over analysis. Mayock loved gabbert and alualu. You're proving your own short-sighted ignorance. What's not to love about Gabbert and Alualu? Gabbert was ruined by the ineptitude of a franchise with no idea on how to develop a quarterback. The guy just might be salvageable, which is why the Gator-infested media is all over Colin Kaepernick using the dubious TMZ media-crack pushers to feed the junkies. All this red-neck brutality for not being Tim Tebow is following Gabbert out west. Disqualify Colin Kaepernick to force Gabbert onto the field again, too soon. Nice. Alualu has a place in the NFL. I seriously doubt that Mayock was not as shocked as anyone else in the NFL world was when Tyson was reached for by the Team Gene Regime. Wut?

We know Mike Mayock lets pro days influence him way too much, he would be the type of GM to take Blaine Gabbert I remember him raving about Gabbert pre draft, he said Jamarcus Russell had the best pro day ever, he said Jimmy Clausen would be a top 10 pick and was a steal in the 2nd round.
His track record is not that good on evaluating QBs

Quote:Like I said before, this You shouldve posted the quote too "Bottom line, he's the first quarterback off the board, and it wouldn't surprise me if Carolina takes him at No. 1," Mayock said on Path to the Draft." HAHAHA Not only did he not go first two teams passed on him and he was falling until a terrible GM traded up for him and on top of that he was a bust

He has more hit's than misses. Saying Clausen would be top 10 pick doesn't surprise me because when Clausen came out in 2010, Sam Bradford highlighted the QB class.. And that QB class was awful.. http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/4/2/557...ayock-2014
And Mayock is NOT saying that Bridgewater isn't going to be a decent QB in the NFL.. He's saying that he wouldn't take him in the 1st round. Calm down, fanbois..

So Mayock watches film and has Teddy as a top 10 player. Goes back and watched the same film and says Teddy isn't a top 32 player. Sorry for not caring what he thinks. I'll take Josh norris' Evals over mayocks all day.
Mayock is no different than the rest. Afraid to stick their neck out and go against the status quo.
