Mike Mayock: I wouldn’t use a first-round pick on Teddy Bridgewater
|
Quote:Great. Just proved yourself a smart-aleck jerk. Gratz. Gabbert didn't have everything you're looking for in a QB prospect. And honestly I don't think he was ruined in his development. He was overhyped, and never the prospect he was being made out to be. You didn't just offer your opinion. You came out and said that there's no way he's the 2nd best QB in the draft behind Manziel. Your words, not mine. There's 'no way'? Seriously? He might even be the best QB in this draft. There's no way you could know. Unless like I said, you had a time machine.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Quote:Well, of course you do. You have proved to be one of the most stubborn posters on this board. You still think Geno Smith was worth a top 2 pick (franchise QBs > any other position). For some odd reason, you aren't man enough to admit you may have over-valued a player like Bridgewater and Geno. For the thousandth time. I said right after the draft I was wrong on his value. Plenty of other people saw me say this. Sorry for not giving up on a player I believe in after one year with a horrible cast around him. If he proves to be bad in 3 years then I will gladly say I was wrong on my evaluation. Quote:dude, just shut up. WHo are you to be labeling anyone else as stubborn. Pot/ kettle.. Yup. +1
Quote:And Teddy is not a franchise qb. He will develop into a starter...but not a franchise qb. He will never be a Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Luck, etc. I think his touch and pocket presence is very impressive.
Quote:I think his touch and pocket presence is very impressive.See heres the thing, last year people like you were saying Geno had the same attributes, sometimes that doesnt translate. Teddy will take alot of sacks in the NFL, he is small and not very fast. he will also throw alot of picks, he doesnt look off the safeties and he underthrows his deep balls more than her overthrows. these are things he can work on and i think he will be good, i just prefer Manziel and McCarron. Him and Jimmy G are the two QBs I would least like to see the jags select. I would take Johnny football, Bortles, Carr, and McCarron before Teddy.

I don't know who the heck you are talking about, cause the one that is described in this post is absolutely nothing like the one that is going to be drafted in almost two weeks. The Teddy I know avoids sacks very well, throws hardly any picks, manipulates safeties like a 10 year vet, and when he misses on deep passes it is usually overthrown.

Mayock has to be live on tv for draft, which means he has to some basic knowledge of ALOT of players. He probably took what the media was saying for granted about the kid and ran with it and focused on learning about 2nd day kind of guys. Because honestly, what is the point of spending a lot of time on the guy who is going off first anyways?
But then Teddy starts turning heads by stinking up the joint and Mayock's hand is forced. Maybe does put in the 4 tapes now and maybe he is a little underwhelmed. Maybe the 'red flags' are seen on the tape too and the idea that he shouldn't go in the first is reinforced. Maybe Mayock isn't a poor evaluater, but he is just now really seeing him. Did he just say he'd rather draft Carr & McCarron before Teddy?? Quote:The Teddy I know avoids sacks very well There goes all credibility... he's known for taking those he doesn't need to take. Try again.

Quote:There goes all credibility... he's known for taking those he doesn't need to take. Try again. Maybe years ago....not this past season. He improved greatly in QB sacks given up. But then again, I know.....you don't like him. Quote:I know......its shameful. Mayock's cred is dropping like a lead balloon. Ehh... no. The only thing dropping like a lead balloon is Ted's stock. Mayock's reputation hasn't moved a bit, nor should it.

Who are currently making decisions for teams Quote:Ehh... no.Actually, we have zero clue if Teddy's stock has moved at all. We don't know where it actually was before the whole process started and we still don't know now. Last I checked, none of these talking heads are NFL GMs, or run the football operations for NFL teams.
To actually bring up an interesting shift of this topic, to myself at least, I am surprised that Mayock came to a conclusion on what he thought Teddy was after breaking down only four games. The same could be said about Jaws putting his 4th round grade on Manziel after only breaking down I think it was 3 games. I know that all of the ESPN guys also have an army of behind the scenes people that give them scouting reports and stuff too, but it's always struck me at how fast they come to their conclusions.
The draftniks that I talk to regularly wouldn't dare put a grade on a QB without watching a whole season's worth of footage, and at least half a season for a non QB. Probably nothing that anyone else cares about though...
Mayock is a complete joke. He thinks he is a genius and tries to act like he knows everything about football. When he breaks down tape or is doing commentary on a game, he talks as if his audience has never seen a football game in their life. I am really curious as to where Bridgewater is on Caldwell's board. Didn't Prisco say in his article a while back, the one after he said he saw Caldwell's big board, that we wouldn't pass on Clowney or Teddy? I am starting to think all of this second round QB stuff we have heard is our way of trying to ensure that nobody trades ahead of us for a QB, potentially Teddy.

Teddy is not a bad QB but you just dont take those kind of QBs in the 1st round in a draft this deep unless you want to set your franchise back a couple years.
Quote:Mayock is right, you dont take a weak armed game manager in the 1st round.I agree with that statement, but this thread is about Teddy Bridgewater. I don't know which player you're referring to. |
