I think that is probably only the case if you were an AFC team. The NFC in the 80's was probably as good a conference has been in one decade in league history. You had Ditka and Da Bears, Gibbs and the Redskins, Parcells and the Giants, Walsh and the Niners. Those four dominated football for 10 years.

Tim, unfortunately you are correct.   The shortsightedness of the Commissioner,  most owners,  and other league executives will likely prove costly in the long run.

 

I'm planning on going to the draft.   I suffered a quad injury last year that required surgery but barring a setback am at the point that I can travel and do most everyday normal activities.   Being at the draft has been a goal of mine for many months.

Judging by the push back from the fans... I think it will stay at 14 teams for a very long time. No need to fear a 16 team system.

It's not a matter of if the playoffs will be expanding but when. I heard someone say that Goodell is looking to potentially add another primetime playoff game. Friday, Sunday or Monday night for the first round. ESPN paid 100 million to broadcast one game. The NFL is not going to pass up 200 million dollars.

You do understand that the fan sentiment had nothing to do with the 14 game system OR the 16 game system, right?  This is all about money. There's a point where the returns start to diminish.  The networks will dictate what makes the most sense, and it sounds like they want 14 games.

BTW, if the 14 game system reaps big financial rewards for the networks and the league, they'll be proposing going to 16 a year or two from now.

Goodell will go along with what the networks who are writing the checks want.  If they see ample rewards for a 14 team playoff, they'll push for the next step if they think they can maintain or increase the revenue.  It's not about what people want.  It's about what advertisers are willing to pay the networks, and in turn what they're willing to give the league.

The guy has systematically worsened NFL football since he took over from Tagliabue. 

 

 

With 32 teams, & 12 teams making the playoffs, its perfect. It actually feels like an accomplishment when teams make the playoffs under the current system.

 

I don't want the NFL to feel like the NHL and NBA in terms of making the playoffs. 

 

I think things are pretty good the way they are too, but if the players will never accept an expanded regular season, and this is the only way to get rid of a couple of those crappy pre-season games, I'd live with it.

 

Besides, it kind of sucks when the season is over after 4 games because of a bad start,
