Oakland & Cleveland will likely take QB.

There is an equal likelihood that CLE and OAK don't get a QB with their first picks.  OAK signed Schaub and CLE has Hoyer.  Both teams are probably comfortable entering the season with them as the starters.

Hoyer? Hoyer is going to make a team say <i>"Uh nah.....we don't need a QB here at 4".....???</i>

As far as Oakland goes, they would take Watkins over Mack if Watkins is still there (or trade down with say Detroit)

Yes... Did you watch NFL football last season?  Hoyer was playing well before the injury, so CLE is going to be willing to give him another shot.

Quote:Not only that, but at that point he still carried the ball hawk rep with him as well, so QB were still very leery to put one up in the air where he was. Thats an advantage for the defense.

For clarification, I do not assert that players who do not produce a lot of interceptions are of no use to good defenses.

There are great CBs who don't register many INTs because QBs avoid throwing against them.

There are mediocre DBs who register a lot of INTs because QBs don't fear attacking them. There is a CB who played for the Rams out of Miami a few years back I would put in this category (Ryan McNeil, I want to say).

But give me a defender who can get me the football any day.

This guy is worth a look.  Everybody settle down about "ball hawks".  Where is this guy projected?  Late rounds?

I agree....I'm not saying ALL starting 4 DB need to be ballhawks.

But IMO, you need at LEAST that ONE of the 4 that is the Earl Thomas/ Rashean/ Reed/ Polamalu type threat.

We currently have zero.

If there is even the slightest possibility that he is related to Chicken George, I say draft him.

We are in agreement here.

As to whether the subject of this thread will ever be a ball hawk is a mystery.

But I maintain guys who can create turnovers are important to any defense.

Having at least one on each level of the defense would be ideal.

If he made the all-conference first team then he is more than a workout warrior

Whenever I see someone feel the need to post player X's combine/ pro day crap, I'll usually assume the player's resume isn't good enough to stand on its own. Otherwise, theres no reason to cite it.

I remember Terrell Buckley was like that. 50 career INTs and played for half a dozen teams.

There is not a "pretty good chance". We played this game last week.

Excellent example.

Buckley had a nose for the football, to be sure.  But he was too small to match up with receivers that approached any level of physical play, and didn't have the Deion Sanders/Darrell Green speed to overcome his lack of size to make his gambling style really pay off much.

I remember that Monday night game against Miami in 1998 very well.  Jimmy Smith and Keenan abused him physically.

When I watched Brock Vereen he never really stood out to me.  He seems to take himself out of the play frequently as well.  He isn't the player his measurables say he should be.  I see a special teams player here with some possible developmental potential - aka Chris Prosinski.

Woah, woah, woah....you're talking FOOTBALL stuff there.....that don't matter.

What matters is he ran close to a 4.4 and blew up the combine and/ or pro day.

I like Pierre Desir.  He has excellent length and very good speed.  He's excellent in trail technique.  He's very good at 50/50 balls and jump balls.  He will have to adjust to the physicality of NFL wide receivers though.  May be a stash and play year 2 type of player.

Desir is probably going in round 2 and will be pushed into a starting role most likely.
