Blake Bortles 'took over the room' in Jaguars meeting

Bortles seems way more nimble than Big Ben. He can really run. Big Ben has been slow as long as I can remember.

Bortles is now Big Ben with better scrambling ability?
I'm guessing the liquor stores must be open 24 hours down there.
If you watch the UCF vs SC cutup, you will notice that the UCF offense didn't ask Bortles to do a whole lot in terms of making decisions. Most of the throws are quick drops and hitting the first read with screens/read option mixed in.
The only thing "pro style" about that offense is that sometimes they go under center.

I was surprised to see Bortles rushed for 250 yards each year over the past 2 years. Quote:The only thing "pro style" about that offense is that sometimes they go under center. Dear god, please stop with this nonsense. (And you're not the only one, I've seen many regurgitations of the same nonsense in different forms.) His offense was certainly pro style, in some ways even more than other "pro style" offenses that other draft picks supposedly played in that were actually highly college-tailored bastardizations of a so-called "pro style." They covered this in Gruden's QB Camp, so if anyone missed it and still wrongly believes he wasn't in a pro style system, then you need to watch Bortles' show. But then, it occurs to me that someone who believes something so out of bounds isn't looking for the truth, but is willfully advancing a narrative contrary to it.

Man this was a fun thread to go back and read through. It's crazy how many people did a 180 after he went to the Jags.
LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

Don't you know that a 180 is required in the repertoire of all fans, especially those who post on message boards for all the world to see. I always thought that was common knowledge.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

I said before the draft that I had Bridgewater/Bortles would be the best two QB's in this draft class with Teddy being the better of the two. I'm not going to drastically alter my opinion just because one went to my team and one didn't.

I was one of the many who were concerned about Bortles fast rise. Much like other's I thought "You know... why is he just now suddenly rising to the top? This is reminding me of Blaine Gabbert.".
But then -- I thought about it more. Blaine Gabbert was coming out the same year as Andrew Luck. Only Luck decided not to declare. Which left the top candidates as a guy who stole a laptop... and really nobody else. There was nobody to really hype up that year, which is why Blaine got the hype. Gabbert fit the pro-typical Quarterback size. Blake Bortles on the other hand came out in the same year as Johnny Manziel. A guy dubbed "Johnny Football". The media quickly jumped on Manziel. Jon Gruden had his tongue firmly attached to Manziel's boot. You also had Teddy Bridgewater, who while he had a bad pro-day, could have easily been hyped up (and had been hyped up for most of the season). There was no need for them to artificially inflate the value of a Quarterback at the end of the season. They had their story in Johnny not-six-foot-tall and Teddy Bridgewater. They could have even inflated the stock of A.J. McCarron or Derek Carr, or even Jimmy Garropollo. There were plenty of choices. But they didn't need to because Johnny Manziel declared. And that was enough to create plenty of hype.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:I was one of the many who were concerned about Bortles fast rise. Much like other's I thought "You know... why is he just now suddenly rising to the top? This is evident by what happened in the draft, what happened to other teams after the pick was made and the comments that have since been noted immediately after the draft from other GMs/coaches around the league. Bortles was the best QB prospect in this class. Will he be the best QB? Time will yell.

This has been a fun thread, minus TMD looking like the stupid Jaguars hater he is again.
I totally understand the Gabbert/Bortles comparisons. Jaguars fans are remembering last time we drafted a "franchise quarterback," he was a complete mismatch for our offense and not given the redshirt season he needed, so we all thought he was horrible and overrated. One thing someone noted before the NFL Combine was Blake Bortles is a similar size and developmental player, which makes him Gabbert 2. The problem with that idea Bortles was not always in the shotgun or running a spread offense on every play so he can do anything in our offense after a year on the bench. I always believed Gabbert's problem was being drafted by the wrong team because we were very conservative and did not run a lot of plays out of the shotgun, which was the exact opposite of Missouri's spread offense. The adjustment will be smaller for Bortles because he went to UCF. I never watched either quarterback play in college or even knew about them before they declared for the draft. However I do know TMD is always biased against whoever the Jaguars like, so I am not going to believe anything he says about Bortles. The Jaguars would not think Bortles is worth the #3 overall pick if they were not wowed by two years of game tape and UCF's Pro Day in addition to what he said and did at the NFL Combine, so I trust their judgment on him. David Caldwell is a good drafter with a much better eye for talent than Gene Smith, so why should anybody hate the pick? Moderators, why isn't this #116 and inserted after knamm's post?

Quote:This has been a fun thread, minus TMD looking like the stupid Jaguars hater he is again. hey how about a tall cool glass of shut up? I already posted in other threads with several mea culpa on my initial views on Bortles that were too heavily based on the SC game. I was also far from the only person criticizing this player before the draft. Quote:So... someone at the Jaguars told a reporter in the week before the draft that they were really impressed with Bortles.... Sound like a smokescreen to anyone ? Nope.
