I'm guessing they will be 6-10 this year.  If they do better, then that's icing on the cake for me.

If I have to decide on one number I'll go with 6. It won't be enough to be relevant in our conference but enough to show we're making solid progress. The real question is who we beat and how tough we lose to better teams.

Its hard to tell because the draft hasnt occured, so many unknown variables than exist.  Who will be the starting QB, under what center or rest of Oline, any WR threats, what kind of LEO pass rusher, etc?


After drinking the teal koolaid I put down 7 wins, because the NFC east is a weak division and should be 4 easy wins (maybe the Eagles will be tough).  The Texans should be a sweep if not one a piece (5 or 6 wins) and then I figure the odds are one or two more wins in other games.

If the texans rebound as they likely should then the Jaguars will probably top out at 4 or 5 wins. If the texans are in a free fall and don't recover from last season then maybe 5 or 6 wins.

 

Either way the Jaguars weren't as good as their 4 wins last season, so even though they'll still be bad this year the 4 or 5 wins they're likely to get will be higher quality wins than the ones they got last year.

We should get at least a split with our division opponents. Other winnable games would be Miami, Cleveland, and Cincy. We'll also have a shot against Dallas and the Giants.

Anyone that thinks the Jaguars take one from the colts is dreaming. The texans and titans maybe, but when the game is on the line Henne will choke and Luck will step up, if it's even close. I doubt the texans go into a free-fall like last year, either.

 

Jaguars will probably struggle to reach last year's win total, but it'll be a better effort instead of 3 wins against teams picking at the top of the draft.

You're way to pessimistic.  The Colts are a little bit of a fraud, but even if they do sweep us we'll get at least 7 wins.  This defense has been changed substantially with the work in free agency and it will show on the field next year.

 

Seriously? A fraud? Did you watch how Luck took it to the chiefs in the playoffs last season?

 

You don't beat a team with a QB like that with a roster like the Jaguars currently have. I hope the Jaguars get better, but I don't have a doubt the colts will be getting better along side us.

The colts are already behind the 8 ball because they don't have a key pick that would be required to really help them improve.  That organization is a mess right now with the boneheaded decision to trade away their 1st round pick for an underachieving running back.  Their owner fancies himself to be some sort of bumpkin version of Tony Montana. 

 

The colts are going to be a decent team this year because they've got talent.  But, they're not some unbeatable juggernaut that we can't possibly find a way to overcome.  I think Gus and his coaching staff are looking forward to that first home game vs. the colts in order to leave them branded and heading home with an L hung on them.

To the optimists in this thread (not saying that's a bad thing), how long do you think it'll take for the OL to gel?

 

Keep in mind, none of the starters from last year's opening day will be the same.

 

Joeckel is moving to LT, and has less than half a year's experience.

 

Pasztor was on the bench to start the year last year, now he is at RT.

 

Beadles is brand new at LG.

 

We have no idea who will play C and RG, and the odds are decent that both starters in those positions will be rookies.

 

Absolutely, the OL is a legitimate concern and will probably be a source of heartburn at times throughout the season.  Still, the interior of our line hasn't been all that great for the last couple of years anyway.  Meester as experienced as he was, probably played a year or two past his ideal retirement age.  On the optimistic side, Pasztor was playing pretty well after being moved out to RT, Joeckel looked good at LT before the injury, and the front office feels that Beadles brings the "right stuff".  It will take them a while to gel for sure.  If the OL was solid, I'd probably go from picking 7 or 8 wins to picking them to make a playoff push.
