Trading down from #3
|
Listening to the "pre-draft luncheon," it's rather obvious that Caldwell is trying his best to trade down a bit. He mentioned possibly landing around 8, 9 or 10 early on, and then later suggested that getting down to 12 to 14 would be ideal. He also made it clear that he doesn't feel any of the QBs are worth even a first round pick so if he's targeting someone it's probably not a QB. It sounds like he'll go best available QB at #39. So who might he be targeting, and what team might be willing to trade up? I'm thinking he might be looking at Mike Evans, Anthony Barr, Aaron Donald or maybe even Eric Ebron

If they're trading down into the middle of the first, maybe Bridgewater. They've spent a lot of time on the guy considering no QB has a first round grade according to Dave.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Mid-first??.....lol.....Bridgewater is going to be long gone by then. The furthest Bridge will fall is the 8th pick. I would think someone like Barr is a definite possibility there. Bridgewater could be in play. Might be talking down the qbs so he can get teddy for more value.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Why take a less talented player when he can grab elite talent at three? You wonder why we never have enough talent? We simply don't draft talented players.

Might depend on what the trade was. If it was to move down a few places and get extra picks in round four, for instance then I'd agree with you. If it was to get an extra second round pick and still get a top ten player, then I think I'd be trading down. The worry is going to be that we give up the chance of picking a game changer like Watkins just to get a couple of extra average players. We're not going to get our pick in the top three every year (at least I hope not!) so this could be our chance to add real quality to the team. We show less advertisements to registered users. LOVE THEM JAGUARS!
Quote:Houston/ Jax/ Cleveland/ Oakland/ Minnesota all could reasonably select a QB. And they all might be reasonably thinking round two. As for Bridgewater, he's now generally considered the fourth QB to go after Manziel, Bortles and Carr. Caldwell probably brought him in just in case he's still there at #39.

This basically tells me that he has been in talks already with said slots in the first round. If 8,9 or 10 come calling then I would expect a second round pick attached, no less. If 12 to 14 are ideal then he is advertising to the top 15 teams he wants to move. Great move. We could see a browns draft from a few years ago when they kept trading down until they got their guy plus additional picks. This draft is so deep. Elite talent isn't only in the top 5. If Clowney, Mack, Watkins, weren't in this draft who would we be talking about being the top/elite talent.

I watched his interview also. He said he has a really good idea who they will pick if they stay at 3, but I think he really wants to trade down after watching that.
Shock the world
