Derek Carr -- am I missing something?
|
Serious question:
Now that the draft is drawing near, there have been a lot of talks about Carr potentially going in the first round, which I thought was a Christian Ponder-like reach. Even crazier is that some media even mocked him going in the top 10 to the Browns or Raiders. I thought that Bortles' rise was almost Gabbert-like, but I can at least understand why he rose so fast after the college season. Carr on the other hand, doesn't have any of the measurables that Bortles has (though it can be argued that Carr has a better arm than Bortles). According to the NFL combine, Carr is measured in at 6'2", 214 lb, and 9 1/8" hand size. (And people ripped apart Bridgewater for his build and hand size?) Am I wrong to say that there really isn't any special trait that Carr has over the other prospects that would warrant a 1st round grade? From the videos that I watched at draftbreakdown, I just don't see it. He ran a college system that obviously inflated his stats like crazy. Even worse is that of all the data collected on all the QB prospects' passes, his percentage was the least impressive among the top 5 group when being under pressured. I would be shocked if Carr does go in the first round and very surprised if he is drafted in the 2nd round. All I see is a 3rd (maybe) or a 4th round (more appropriate) prospect. Is this another case of media pundits (NFL.com) hyping up a prospect without a lot of statistical facts? ![]() Check out Rotoworld for more info. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/45...of-the-box ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. It's the Eli Manning effect. Having a star NFL QB for an older brother really boosts one's draft stock.
![]() Edit: ... unless your first name is 'Jordan.' "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
I think Carr's star is rising because the hacks in the media need something to talk about. They're talking him up.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
He does have a very good NFL arm, and surprising athleticism.
Not a bad prospect to develop. Not worth picking very high though, IMO.

They're trying to sucker the Jaguars into selecting him.....just like in 2011 with Gabbert, when it worked.

I do find it funny like you said his size is the same as Teddy, but he never is knocked for it, he plays in a weaker conf then Teddy but he never is knocked for it and his stats dont match up to Teddy in those type of situations.

OK, I'm glad I'm not the only person who sees this. I was surprised that E.J went in the first round last year. But then again, E.J has the measurables similar to Bortles and Gabbert, so it wasn't that big of a surprised he went in the mid first round. Carr has none of that. Maybe a good arm (but not elite like Stafford's arm). I just don't see first or second round grade.
What round does everyone see him going? I'll stick to what I said: I would be shocked if he goes in the late first round. Instead of being safe (3rd round), I'm going to make a bold prediction and say he's going in the 4th round or lower. I've been the only one around here on the Carrmobile for a while now. I would absolutely pick him ahead of Manziel...and maybe ahead of Bortles too depending on how quick I needed him to start.
Give him a year and change to sit and learn and he could be the best QB from this class. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Arm strength, quick release, experience, football IQ, pedigree.
