TMD's Jags Mock

(This post was last modified: 05-05-2014, 05:10 PM by The Mad Dog.)

These are the players that IN MY OPINION we should take IF we stay at each pick. Players are reasonably expected to be available at each pick.

pick 3.  my pick is Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Lousiville, but won't mind Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A & M. They are as close as can be 1 & 1a. as choices. But Bridgewater is the one I'd select if I must choose. If Caldwell selects Manziel, I'll still be happy with the pick.

Teddy will provide Jacksonville with quality QB play for the next decade. True franchise guy, as will Manziel, if they prefer a more mobile guy.

pick 39. Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame

Underutilized, but talented TE who is a good blocker, great size, and better receiver than people think. Steal of draft. Will blossom into TE in the mold of Jason Witten

pick 70. Pierre Desir, CB, Lindenwood

Will provide the Jags with a ball hawk threat in the secondary that they haven't seen since Rashean Mathis. Good size for the position as well.

pick 105. Terrence West, RB, Towson

Will be a solid backup to Gerhart, and potential heir-apparent. Big, (220-ish lbs) and very productive.

pick 114. Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia

Solid backup and developmental prospect and insurance against Bridgewater injury.

pick 144. Larry Webster, DE, Bloomsburg

Great size/ speed combo, raw, will have to add some weight, but productive. Worth a pick at this point.

ALternate pick Zack Moore, DE, Concordia (if Webster moving to TE)

pick 150. Brandon Thomas, OT, OL, Clemson (will fall because of ACL)

Great value here. Would have been a 2nd or 3rd rounder pre ACL. Could be RT of the future.

pick 159. Spencer Long, OG, Nebraska

Addresses the need for the G position/ depth.

pick 179. Jeff Janis, WR, Saginaw Valley St.

Good size & speed combo. Productive. Small school prospect. But talented. Wow, this draft is deep at WR if you're able to get a potential good WR like this, this late.

pick 205. Isaiah Lewis, S, Michigan St.

Solid depth, nothing more

pick 222. Tyler Larsen, C, Utah St.

Shot in the dark here, would give Brewster some competition.

I think I could live with this draft. Lots of small school players though Ninja

No way they take TB at three. Not a chance.

3.....I am fond of Bridgewater...but I'd be surprised if he were the pick here.

39.  Notre Dame has a long history of producing great TEs.  Somehow I think if TE were the pick, there would be a better candidate available.  However, Caldwell indicates he expects/hopes 4-5 starters to come out of this draft.  I think if the 2nd round pick is going to be a skill player, it'll be a WR.

70, 105 & 144-I don't know if I see Caldwell going small school on that many picks mid round.

I would be happy with a Brandon Thomas selection, with the one caveat that I'd rather take him only after we've taken a healthy G first.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

I thought Larry Webster was converting to TE....also I think Desir makes a better FS than CB, but that's just IMO

Wow, after doing this draft, I realize why Caldwell wants more picks  (trade down)

I wasn't even able to address LB or DT, despite 11 picks.

Is that true? I thought I heard rumblings about that as well...... I guess he figured at that size he had a better chance at that position without needing to gain weight...

I'll have to change that pick then.

Don't use 2 of your first 5 picks on QB's

This draft would be the Caldwell equivalent of Gene Smith's 2010 draft.

Personally I don't care if he plays CB or FS for us.....just get that ball hawk here.

I didn't realize Gene took a franchise QB with his 1st pick in 2010.

Seems like Bridgewater would be a poor use of value.

For a team thats ignored the position for too long, I disagree.

In 3 years we'll be reaping the beneifts of doing so. At worst, Murray will be a solid backup. At best we'll be able to flip him for good trade compensation.

Franchise QB aren't poor use of value at 3. Not sure how a non entity DT compares to a franchise QB, but whatever.

You say you can't address all the team needs but three of your first five picks would be backups. Two of them for the foreseeable future.

translation; "I want Bridgewater!!!" (as his feet kick and he screams with his fingers in ears).

That's how this game is played, right?

2 of my first 5 picks would be backups. Desir's a starter.

And West will split carries with Gerhart much like MoJo did initially with Fred. If thats good enough for a 2nd rounder back in 2006, then its good enough for a 4th round pick, here.
