Review of the class was done by Robert Mays of Grantland. Was it really that bad?

Which is funny because the Jags got a few starters out of that draft...

... Then let them all go and now they're journeymen

That's true. But Knighton and Monroe were both pretty good picks by Jaguars standards.

By Jaguars standards they were as good as it got in the last 7 years. By the standards of the top tier teams they were only contributors and would be considered just an expected level of pick. You expect guys to perform decently if you're going to use a pick on them. If you never get any impact guys then you're Gene Smith.

For the Lions standards last decade,  it was a very good draft.

In the lead up to the draft, I remember the 2008 draft was hyped up as particularly talent poor.  This was part of the reason Baltimore was willing to throw away the value chart in the trade they made with Jacksonville.  The 2009 class was supposed to be better.

My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Gene Smith was a terrible drafter. 3rd round punter says it all.

The top ten of the 2005 draft was pretty bad too.

Alex Smith

Ronnie Brown

Braylon Edwards

Cedric Benson

Cadillac Williams

Pacman Jones

Troy Williamson

Antrel Rolle

Carlos Rogers

Mike Williams

Not as bad as drafting two DTs ahead of Geno Atkins.
