A flash in the pan QB isn't going to attract anything. Players are wanting to come to Jacksonville already to play for Gus, and to play in the state of Florida where there are no taxes to eat up a chunk of their income. This is professional football. Players want to play where they're going to get paid.

I don't think I explained myself well on that one. First off, I think the story is irrelevant and I was talking hypothetically. The issues cited in the story was about living in Jacksonville as a city, and had nothing to do with football taxes or playing for the Jaguars whatsoever. It was more about a big fish not wanting to go to a small pond. But does the big fish make the pond bigger is what I'm saying.

And at this point I'm not even talking about Manziel as a QB. He's nearly an A-List celebrity already. Tebow was big, but Manziel's appeal is completely different monster.

I am loving the fact that nobody is giving the tinhorns a RG3 type deal and forcing their hand to make a decision. Talk about pressure.

How can the league sanctioned website allow official articles like that??? I'd be willing to bet Manziel never said anything like that, especially since he's already been quoted as saying if the Texans do not draft him, he'd love to go to Jax and make Houston pay 2x per season.

His agent is working with LeBron's marketing team to create a Manziel that's bigger than the game, and a global marketing icon similar to James or someone like Peyton Manning.

Playing in the smallest market in the league could jeopardize his earning potential, which I think is a reason to go ahead and draft him. Let's just screw up their grand plans and force him to earn recognition the old fashioned way: by earning it.

That could work out in the Jaguars favor then, if we do draft him (and he pans out).

The more exposure we get the better.

Yea, I agree it's far fetched. Plus Miami, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Atlanta are in relatively close proximity.

I don't even think it makes him look bad. Nowhere in the story did it even mention he had any problem with playing in Jacksonville. Just that he'd prefer a "bigger market" city.

Cam Newton once said before he was drafted that he wanted to be an icon...similar to what you described here.

He was met with derision.

Ultimately, he worked hard enough to improve to become one of the better QBs in the league last year.

If Manziel comes here, we can only hope he will match or surpass Newton on the field.

I just realized if you go to the main page it says Manziel would prefer not to play for Jags, which is completely made up and contradicted in the actual article. Just Wow.
