I voted for Fred Taylor.   Tony Boselli's career was cut short by injuries, or else it would have been Boselli and not Taylor.

I voted for Fred, but I have to think that who else was available when each player was picked needs to be factored in.


 

Stroud was taken with Kenyetta Walker still available and LT our biggest need at the time. Picking Stroud sure dodged a bullet.


 

Henderson was the 2nd of four similarly ranked DTs taken. The Jags made the right choice.


 

Kevin Hardy was taken over Simeon Rice and Jonathan Ogden (and Ray Lewis). Ouch!


 

I'd list Donovin Darius over Marcedes Lewis and maybe Kevin Hardy, even not factoring in the reach for Hardy.

This was a tough one for me. Between Tony and Fred. Tony's career cut short and Fred's was shorter due to a lot of injuries. But I had to go with my favorite Jag of all time, Freddy T! Class, skill, and smarts. If Tony had a longer career, he might have jumped over him. But Freddy T all day!

With all due respect to Fred Taylor,  who was a tremendous asset for the Jaguars on and off the field,   I'm going with Tony Boselli.    When Boselli was relatively healthy,  he made a strong case of being a 1st or 2nd ballot HOFer.

Boselli may have been better at his position than Fred was, but the longevity of Fred tips the scales heavily in his favor. Nobody wants their high first round pick playing a handful of seasons.

Fred Taylor had a long career and has the numbers.  However, I voted Boselli, with an asterick.  He was more dominant at his less-sexy position, and the career was shortened.

Boselli was the best lineman, offensive or defensive, in the league pretty much his entire career. Boselli was one of the most dominant LTs to ever play the game.

If Boselli's career was longer, I don't think this would be that close, but since it was stopped short, I think I gotta go with Fred.  One of my favorite all time players, just had that Bo Jackson style of speed, quickness, and power.

 Other than Bengals HOF LT Anthony Munoz,  I can't think of an Offensive Tackle that I saw play that I thought was better than Tony Boselli.  

 

 Though Boselli[s career was cut short,  it wasn't caught to the extent that the careers of Billy Sims and Terrell Davis were cut short.    While Fred Taylor is a great choice in his own right,   I'm of the opinion that Boselli was so dominant and consistent that he warrants the award as the Jaguars best player in their first 19 seasons.   With Taylor # 2 on the list.     The best football compliment I've seen in a long time regarding an NFL Draft prospect is that to a particular unnamed scout,   Jake Matthews reminds him of Tony Boselli as a prospect.
