I think back to the season and I remember having a blast watching this guy play. That game versus Louisville, the comeback against Temple, his down then up performance against Baylor. I loved watching him play and do whatever needed to be done in order to win.

 

I like having that feeling about a guy, and I'm not so sure why I was so down on this pick. Maybe it's because I perceived that more value was available, or that I just didn't want to go through the Gabbert thing again but I really wasn't on board with it. But the more I think back to just how much fun it was to watch the guy play the more I like the pick.

I feel better about Bortles than I did about Gabbert. Gabbert's shining moment in college was beating #1 Oklahoma. ESPN re-aired the game the week of the draft. I remember watching it and thinking, um, this guy is going to be a first rounder? And then we traded up to get him. I won't lie and say I was the biggest Bortles fan but I think he has a much higher floor.

I watched the first video listed for him on Youtube which was his passes against South Carolina and I'm not really seeing it. He has a poor throwing motion and doesn't seem to get good pass velocity. He also looked to be throwing the same sort of short garbage that Henne has been living on during his time here. Do we really need another check down specialist?
