Honestly, I don't get the Gabbert comparisons. His pocket presence is one of his strengths and he is constantly looking down field to throw the ball. The best comparison to his style of play is Big Ben.

 

I agree I see differences. 

 

I think the biggest comparsions to Blaine are again, the measurables, and the reference to chalk talk/ alleged coachability. We were force fed that rhetoric when Blaine came to town as defense of that pick, so when we hear those things now, its only natural to have some sort of red flag go up.

Sure, it's a similarity, but that is a good similarity.

 

A bad similarity would have been if people say "Has the size, but folds under pressure" .... like Gabbert.

I don't like reading the above. You draft QB based on arm talent (accuracy/ consistent ball placement) and how they command the position. 

 

The above sounds very similar to reasoning we used to draft Gabbert - measurables over QB ability. Ugh. (Do we still have the same scouts here as in 2011??)

 

 

I even remember people defending Gabbert by saying that despite him playing in Missouri that he was allegedly a better "pro style" prospect than most in that draft. 

 

The two QBs game is soooooooooooooooo different. Apple and Oranges.

 

Gabbert was always skiddish in a messy pocket, never showed toughness, or that athleticism everyone kept talking about. Bortles is the complete opposite. He will hang in the pocket, take hits, has demonstrated pocket presence and the ability to make truly athletic plays.

 

The only similarities between these two QBs are they are big, tall, white guys that can throw. That's about it.

this guy does have a certain clutch factor for sure.  my concern is that at worst luck is the poor man's eli manning, and it seems at best bortles is a poor man's luck.
