He's pretty similar to Teddy as a prospect in my opinion. Big difference to me is Bortles has the size, but Teddy has the intelligence and already ran a pro style offense. He's also a more accurate passer.

UCF also runs a pro style offense although they mix in a little option from time to time.

whoa, the similarity is very much there.  the gerhart/turner comparison is DEAD on.  Matt Ryan to Blake Bortles is close enough and when you pair it with the RB additions, you can see what Dave is doing is based on previous success.  BC and UCF runs similar offenses in similar conferences, and both quarterbacks excelled in that position enough to excel in their respective bowls.

Some but it also features and under center vertical passing element. He's also more accurate than Teddy.

I think a big turn-off for the staff on Teddy was him not taking part in everything in the combine.

I really like that Bottles competed in everything and gets picked first while Manziel and Bridgewater slide after not throwing. May make others think in the future.

You're nuts.  Ted was known to checkdown when he didn't need to, inflating the completion percentage.  Taking the safe route.

 

If you bother watching Gruden's QB camp, he takes the QBs through his (Gruden's) favorite play on the whiteboard.  Same play both had in their offense.  It's a play they both knew.

 

They run the same offense.

 

Gruden wanted to see how each approach the play.  Ted had all the textbook answers, as he should.  OTOH, Blake was more aggressive in explaining how to attack the defense and how to handle different coverages and take it to them based on different looks, and even talked about wrinkles within those different looks.

Blake Bortles is similar to the QB his regime drafted in Atlanta, in Matt Ryan. 

 

Gus Bradley as head coach is similar to Atlanta's choice of Mike Smith...

 

Caldwell is a creature of habit. We all need to start paying more attention to what he's done or been a part of in his past in Atlanta to get an idea of what moves he's going to make.

Wow, I agree with you here. Murray could be a quality backup, like Gary Kubiak was to Elway. And if he's truly special, he could push Bortles, and, in the worst case scenario, salvage this draft if Bortles bombs.

Granted some of this is from doing some research after the fact of drafting him......,

 

but, 

 

I do like the fact that he seems to throw well on the run. I like that UCF allegedly isn't a very talented offense as far as skill players go, and he seemed to do more with less, which is one of the traits I look for in both QB and coach. As much as I don't like it to be amongst the first attributes mentioned with a QB - I do like the prototypical size Bortles has. I like the fact that he won his bowl game, and did so despite adversity - i.e. had to come from behind to do it. Winners are able to do that. 

 

Another thing I like (and I think I was correct in this observation) was that he seems to keep his eyes downfield, much like Teddy, when he's on the run or trying to evade pressure. 

 

He also led UCF back to beat Louisville when they were down 21 points.  If you can find a way to rewatch that game, go do it.

 

I think it was a Thursday night game, great atmosphere....Louisville jumps up big in the 3rd quarter to go up 28 to 7.  UCF fights back and actually takes the lead 31 to 28.  Louisville then takes the lead back 35 to 31.  UCF put the dagger in when they scored a touchdown on an insane throw by Bortles with 23 seconds left.
