Bruce Arians reminds me to a large extent of Gunther Cunningham when saying what's on his mind.   Rex Ryan comes to mind as well.   It's near the complete opposite of the approach Bill Belichick and Jim Schwartz use.   The only time I recall Belichick saying anything that's beyond ' coach speak'  is when he ripped Wes Welker in his press conference the day after the Broncos beat the Patriots in the AFC Championship game.   Normally it's easier to get gold out of Ft. Knox than it is to get information out of Belichick that's not generic.   The beat writers of the Cardinals are fortunate that Arians is the team's HC.

I think Teddy Bridgewater will have a few good years in MINN.  Without the media attention and playing in CLE Manziel could be something special. Overall Blake Bortles is going to have a successful NFL career with the Jags.

Couldn't be more impressed with Bortles mentally/personality wise. He seems like a bright, competitive guy who is always calm and collected. Lee is destined to be a fan favorite and excellent role model as well

I was really hoping for Watkins.....not Bortles. But now that the draft is over, I'm glad we finally have our QB. Looks like it was a unanimous choice amount our scouts and coaches. Since Lee was the #2 receiver on my board, getting him at #39 takes a LOT of the sting out of not getting Watkins. Robinson was icing on the cake.

He definitely didn't go to a weather friendly team. He is going to have a tough time throwing the ball in Green Bay, Minnesota and Chicago in November/December.

May sound like 20/20 hindsight or a complete homer move, but comparing the Bortles game tapes and Bridgewaters - they don't even come close IMO.

 

Bortles looks like a man among boys.  He looks like the best player on the field regardless of who he faced.  He looked elite....

 

Bridgewater didn't IMO, but I freely admit I'm no QB guru.

Bridgewater never overly impressed me with his play. He was good, but I never saw this elite talent someone here has tried to convince people of. That assessment was fully debunked in the draft when he wasn't taken as the first QB, and almost slipped out of the first round completely. Minnesota saved him from an absolute disaster on draft day, but they can only hide him for so long.


The division he's going to is tough for QBs. With Minnesota playing outdoors, that's going to be interesting to watch. I'm betting he sits his rookie year.

Agreed.  I could see Bridgewater thrive in a place like New Orleans, but man... once November starts, not sure how well he'll do.  He may do well if the scheme is perfect for him and is geared towards his talents.

 

But you don't draft a QB #3 overall who can't throw without his gloves and doesn't display a single elite characteristic.  And I don't buy the "intelligence" aspect of his game because nobody knows what the playcall was, what he did to adjust (whether he adjusted) or anything like that.  The coaches may know, but the layman does not.  The only objective measurement of intelligence was the wonderlic, and from what I remember he didn't do too great in that one either.

 

There were rumblings he didn't do too great in some of his personal interviews with teams either, but that's just speculation.

 

Furthermore, he didn't strike me as a very confident person in all the interviews I've seen of him.  Could be just nerves/maturity issues.  That's something that may be fixable, he may be a different person in a couple of years... but he just wasn't that ready IMO.

 

I think Bridgewater could have made a mistake going out as a junior.  He would have helped his stock by staying another year, coming to the combine at like 228 lbs of solid muscle, competing and throwing (glove or without glove, whatever, just do it well) and maybe another year would make him also seem like a more mature/confident athlete.

looks like in the end, they weren't close at all.  I know what you mean, because the media made them out to be almost toss-ups.

 

Bortles was by far the best of the bunch.  I firmly believe that Cleveland getting Johnny and Minnesota getting Teddy were just consolation prizes... they all had Bortles ranked #1.

Bridgewater will be an OK starter in this league. He has no elite tangibles/intangibles and questionable leadership skills. His ceiling is Alex Smith if everything goes his way. But I think he'll only reach David Garrard levels.
