Udfa

Quote:I read something a long time ago, probably 10+ years back, about the art of wooing UDFAs. The GM has to sell the UDFA on his team being the best fit. With UDFAs in particular, there's generally a very strong push from the agent to chase the signing bonus. Agents aren't dumb. They know that for 90% of UDFAs, that $5-10k signing bonus is the only money they'll ever make on their client. Even though a guy might be a good fit for a team offering $5k up front, the agent will often push the player hard to sign with a team where he's less likely to stick, but will get additional cash up front.

That's stupid from the agents perspective as well. You want to put guys in a situation where they have the best chance to succeed or at least make a practice squad.

I like Jensen. Should fit into the old "Zach Potter" role.

Yupp I think prosinski as well

Other than the QB, I would be surprised if any "name" players are released. That includes Prosinski.

I think it is more likely to see one of the fullbacks (Ewing/Chapas) cut.

There are camp fodder guys on the roster now like Matt Stankiewitch (WHO?), Joe Young and Lamaar Thomas.

For what it is worth, here are the rankings of the players according to CBSSports.com.... overall rank, position rank, projected round.

College --- Role --- Player

California DT Deandre Coleman; 146, 15, round 4-5

Louisville WR Damian Copeland; 416, 51, free agent

Miami (Fl) WR Allen Hurns; 410, 50, free agent

Fresno St TE Marcel Jensen; 243, 14, round 7

Delaware OL Erle Ladson Jr.; 575, 43, free agent

LSU S Craig Loston; 163, 5, round 5

Miami (Fl) QB Stephen Morris; 314, 17, round 7-FA

Oregon St CB Rashaad Reynolds; 111, 15, round 3-4

Utah St TE Donald Tialaveau; 666, 35, free agent

Tenn Tech P Chad Zinchini; n/a

Don't see any of these guys making the final 53. Reynolds, Coleman and Loston are obviously the best value pick-ups, but we are deep at their positions. Not sure there is room on the roster for even those three guys. Maybe practice squad players. Reynolds would have had a good chance if we didn't draft McCray and Harris in the 7th last year.

Due to his ties with or O-cord Fisch, I would not be shocked if they keep Morris on the Practice Squad as the 3rd QB option and cut all other QB's.

I think Jensen and Reynolds have a good shot at the 53-man, and several others have a solid chance of landing on the practice squad. It's not like this team is swimming in proven depth, which makes UDFAs that much more likely to stick in some capacity.

I disagree, I can see up to 4 of these guys making the roster. We need a backup NT behind Miller so Coleman takes that spot. Reynolds could easily take a spot especially with Colvin probably hitting the PUP/IR and I can see Loston taking Prosinski's spot. Last, I can see Jensen taking the 3rd TE spot behind Lewis and Harbor. I would almost consider it a lock that Morris is the 3rd QB and tucked away on the PS.

NFL.com has Coleman listed as a 2nd-3rd round prospect:

The only advantage Morris has for the 3rd QB slot is that he played in Fisch's offense in college. Matt Scott played in Fisch's offense last year. As did Stanzi, for that matter. I think the whole "Morris/Fisch" connection is overblown. He may well land on the practice squad, but if he does, I doubt that knowing Fisch's offense will be the reason why. If Fisch had the same convictions about Morris that he apparently did about Linder, wouldn't we have spent some draft pick somewhere on him?

I think Coleman, Loston, Reynolds, and Jensen make the roster.
