There was a small sense of glee in my mind as the picks rattled off, and the networks kept going back to show Manziel.  By the time Dallas had passed him up, the guy was clearly not a happy camper.  When Cleveland finally stepped in and drafted him, I think the NFL Network decided the draft was over.  Their wall-to-wall coverage of Manziel was now over. 

 

Meanwhile, the top QB taken in the draft at #3 left Radio City and went to dinner with his family before hitting the sack so he could be in Jacksonville first thing the next morning.  We haven't seen any TMZ pictures of his exploits.

 

I get the feeling Manziel is going to crash and burn in the NFL.  Too much time focused on being a rock star, and not enough on being the best at his position.

I hope Manziel is successful. The NFL needs personalities. This is an entertainment business by the way. Johnny Football is good for the league, just as Joe Namath and others are. It won't bother me if he makes it. As long as he doesn't play particularly well against the Jaguars.

 

I hope (a lot) that Bortles is the real deal, but it looks like he may be pretty boring in the media sense. I'll take it.

Not expecting him to be studying a playbook a few hours after being drafted, but preparing to fly to Cleveland the next day, and not celebrating like you were the top pick in the draft isn't a lot to ask.  You'd have thought he found a little bit of humility after being made to sweat it out all the way to 22.

Ha! You clearly didn't read the leaked scouting report the Pats had one him. He showed up to a grand total of 4 out of 23 workouts and was said to only have watched film once in his entire collegiate career. Won't be as fun when you don't have one of the best WR's in the country and dominant tackles blocking for you.

Still, when I see Manziel, I see a kid who has the talent to be an electric player in the league, but only because of his improvisational skills.  When you put him in a box and force him to work within a system, he's not nearly the player, and eventually, every gimmick player in the NFL has to conform to a more prototypical role, especially at that position.  I don't think he's got the gumption to put the time in to really hone his skills.  The kid likes to have his fun.   That could certainly change as he matures...if he matures.  But, until then, highly suspect.

That would be an awkward debate for sure, especially knowing he's allegedly not a guy who puts a lot of time into learning the play book or studying film. Just convinces me more we got the right QB. Manziel marching out doing his little money hand gesture vs a guy who looked to be in total awe of what he was experiencing, but not overwhelmed? Yeah, we got our guy.
