Haven't seen either but The Conjuring looks like it would be pretty good and got decent reviews.

There's a very popular urban legend saying that the film is allegedly cursed. Primarily due to the use of real cadavers.

When I was nine years old, I was going to spend the night at my friend's house and we were going to watch scary movies all night.  My dad warned us not to touch The Exorcist.  He warned us.

 

Long story short, we watch it, and I couldn't sleep for a week.

 


Was it the version with the deleted scene from the original? The backwards crab crawl down the stairs?

 

When DVD movies first came out, I bought 2 movies on a whim ... Platoon & Excorsist.

 

Not that they were the top of my list at that time, more because they caught my attention at Best Buys when nothing else seemed worthy of a weekend movie night at the time.

A lot of strange things happened to those involved with the film.  I don't believe in such things, but there were many unusual circumstances.

 

• Dominique Dunne, who played the eldest daughter Dana in the first movie, died on November 4, 1982, at age 22 after being strangled by her abusive former boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney.^[14] He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison, but was paroled after serving three and a half years.^[12]
  
• Julian Beck, 60-year-old actor who played Henry Kane in <i>Poltergeist II: The Other Side</i>, died on September 14, 1985, of stomach cancer diagnosed before he had accepted the role.^[15]
  
• Will Sampson, 53 years old, who played Taylor the medicine man in <i>Poltergeist II</i>, died as a result of post-operative <a class="" href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidney_failure' title="Kidney failure">kidney failure</a> and pre-operative malnutrition problems on June 3, 1987.^[16]
  
• Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne in all three <i>Poltergeist</i> movies, died on February 1, 1988 at the age of 12 after what doctors initially described as an acute form of influenza but later changed to septic shock after bacterial toxins invaded her bloodstream.^[17]^[18] At the time, she had suffered <a class="" href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acute_%28medical%29' title="Acute (medical)">acute</a> bowel obstruction, initially diagnosed as Crohn's disease, which may have been the cause of death.

Looks like there's an upcoming reboot/remake due in 2014.  Sam Raimi from Evil Dead fame involved, but that doesn't mean much as I didn't care for his Evil Dead remake.

Except that Beck, and Rourke's deaths were expected. I personally am very skeptical when it comes to urban legends like this, but even a Native American Shaman came in to perform an exorcism on set, as he purportedly sensed that there were angry spirits.

The Conjuring was real good. Surprisingly good. Not a lot of cheap scares, but some genuinely creepy scenes.

I love the first 2 Scream movies. Also, The Thing (1980) is one of my all time favorite movies. 

 

Did any of you guys see Cabin in the Woods? I liked it a lot. The ending was awesome.

OK - it's not really a horror flick - but it cracks me up....  About to put on Shaun of the Dead.

Any of you like Insiduous or The Conjuring?

 

Insiduous was okay, but I loved The Conjuring.  For me, it is top 5 on my list.  That was a really, really, really good movie and very well done.  

 

I'm going to go with some recent ones I have seen.  

 

Re-animator - If you haven't seen this and call yourself a horror fan then shame on you!

Inside - If you like gory movies, this is it.  I personally am a fan of most genres in horror though slasher movies like Halloween don't do much for me.  The french are really doing horror well.

House of the Devil - On netflix.  Great atmosphere, great music and just a fun movie to watch.  It is slow building, but I'm a fan of Ti West's style.

Suspiria - Has some tense moments, but what I love about Dario Argento is that he doesn't hide horror in the shadows.  He lets it be seen with lighting and color.

Dead Alive - Mentioned this on the other movie thread.  Over the top gore.  Considering when it was made, still one of the goriest (but funny) movies of all time.

Old Boy - This kind of falls into a couple different genres, but man, what a great, weird, depressing movie.  It is something you won't forget after watching it.
