Another Superbowl in Jax?
|
Cities that build new stadiums are routinely rewarded with a Superbowl shortly after. We aren't building a new stadium here, but the upgrades appear to be significant enough to make it "feel" like a new venue and having the largest videoscreens/jumbotrons in the league is impressive for being one of the smallest markets.
The Superbowl that was held in Jax years back wasn't highly regarded in terms of the logistics involved in implementing it which may hurt our chances of getting another one anytime soon, but our location and climate are definite selling points, albeit, less so with the NFL venturing back into cold weather Superbowl locations. The question is, do you think the upgrades that will be completed this summer are enough to give Khan a leg to stand on if he were to lobby the NFL for another Superbowl in Jacksonville? What sort of timeline would you see for us having another Superbowl? I think they usually announce Superbowl cities 2 or 3 years out so it would have to be at least that far away if we were to get another one. It might also help if when the next Superbowl does come to Jacksonville, that the shipyards would have already been developed into a vibrant downtown entertainment destination. I'm sure that if Khan does lobby for another Superbowl, a developed shipyards will be part of the presentation. Thoughts? We show less advertisements to registered users. Not a chance.
The perception is that the market is still way too small. If the city ever hosts another Super Bowl, it will be years or even decades from now. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I sure hope they don't host a Super Bowl again. Home Field Advantage Curse is no fun.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Shoot! I hope we put in a bid. Nothing gets things put in order on a deadline like a Superbowl.
Quote:Not a chance. I'd be shocked if we didn't at least put in a bid in the next 5 years Quote:I'd be shocked if we didn't at least put in a bid in the next 5 yearsI agree. Not doing so doesn't seem like Khan's style at all. I know it is a city wide deal but he will push hard I think for this. Not sure about 5, but not far off of that.

I'm not going to put a timetable on it, but yes, we will bid again. Khan is a winner. He will assist in revitalizing downtown and once that occurs, he will bid on a Superbowl.

I hope we get another one.
I think giving Minnesota a SB in February is asinine! I was up there two summers ago in June and it got down into the 30's...in fricking JUNE!!!!!
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

Unless Shad Khan plans on building two or three new hotels I don't think he'll be making any bids. He better also create some entertainment downtown real quick. There is no way Jacksonville can handle the needs a Super Bowl brings at the present time. Now, if Khan agrees to play seven games a year in London ...

I think the city is much more likely to bid on a college football title game, which are becoming mini-Super Bowls.
Quote:See the potential Shipyards project. "Potential" and "project". We may even live to see it. If the Jaguars are still here in twenty years, and I expect them to be, I could see the city making a SB bid. Of course by then the stadium will be pretty old by today's standards and then what happens? If a new stadium is ever built I could certainly see a SB in our future. If you convince the politicians to help you build a new stadium you're pretty much assured a Super Bowl.
