Blake Bortles

Quote:Dumb? I have seen a lot of your posts and threads you have started and you are not the sharpest tool in the shed yourself! He had a higher wonderlic score better than Teddys but thats not saying much! Dont think "dumb" could pull this!My thing is you cant have your cake and eat it too. Either they reached by taking Bortles #3 overall (what most think), or they are confident in him starting right away and eventually becoming an elite franchise QB. Either they reached by taking Bortles #3 overall (what most think), or they are confident in him starting right away and eventually becoming an elite franchise QB. I disagree with this. If you see a player that needs coaching in order to develop necessary skills from the natural gifts that he already has, then you give him that coaching. If you believe that once those skills are coached up that the player will be a First Rate player, then why not take him where you can get him? Granted, nothing teaches like playing in the game, but you want to make as sure as you possibly can that you have prepared him, drilled him, monitored him enough so that he can make good decisions / plays / all around football actions on his own. Bortles has potential, but that's about all he has right now. He needs time and attention to convert that potential into ability. At least, that's my take on the way the team sees the situation.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
If Bortles has potential
Quote: That statement doesnt support drafting a guy #3 overall in the draft, especially with how much talent existed in this draft. The GM couldve traded down or drafted a different guy and than traded up to get Bortles at a more reasonable slot.
Quote:If Bortles has potential Except, you know, that the Browns would've nabbed him at 4, or the Vikings at their slot, possibly the Raiders at 5, and Arians says the Jags drafted the ONLY franchise QB in the draft.... Quote:If Bortles has potential But the actions of the market show things to be different. I've read numerous reports about how Cleveland wanted Bortles and was going to take him once Jacksonville made the selection. If they didn't take him there, then he would not have been available. What this all boils down to is that Jacksonville believes, whether correctly or incorrectly, that in five years Bortles will be a better player than anyone else that was available to them. He won't have as much immediate impact, but that immediate impact is sacrificed for long term production.

Quote:If Bortles has potential Phillip Rivers was drafted #4 overall in the draft, and sat for not just one year, but two.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:He just seems slow in a lot of the interviews I've seen him in, I'm not really saying he's stupid but perhaps not as quick witted as you'd want a QB to be. He speaks thoughtfully and intelligently, honestly trying to answer the question instead of the pat player-speak answers some players give. Maybe that will change as time goes by, but for now it's pretty refreshing.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Quote:If Bortles has potential Actually it does. If Bortles can become a first rate QB at the expense of his rookie season, then it's worth it. More worth it than Watkins, Mack, or anyone else they could have taken. Why? Because QB is the most important position on the field. If you want a first rate player at any position, it's that position. Furthermore, it's common knowledge at this point just how coveted BB was in the top 10 slots, so trading wouldn't have worked. Quote:Phillip Rivers was drafted #4 overall in the draft, and sat for not j ust one year, but two.exactly the game is changing and there is not automatic standard of who has to start when.
Quote:My thing is you cant have your cake and eat it too. Either they reached by taking Bortles #3 overall (what most think), or they are confident in him starting right away and eventually becoming an elite franchise QB. Do you think the Packers regret taking Aaron Rodgers in the 1st round because he didn't start until his 4th year? The "haves" vs "have nots" in this league are mainly seperated by one overwhelming factor ... those that have elite QBs and those that don't. If you think you have an opportunity to get someone who can grow into someone like that, you grab him. I don't care if it takes him 3 years investment and the 1st pick in the draft to do it. It may be years before you have another opportunity. Khalil Mack may turn out to be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, but he'll be second coming of Lawrence Taylor on a 3-13 team until Oakland finds a QB. Quote:Do you think the Packers regret taking Aaron Rodgers in the 1st round because he didn't start until his 4th year? Perfectly said.
Quote:If Bortles has potential Sure it supports drafting a guy #3 overall. Think of it this way. How many quarterbacks have been drafted in say the first 5 picks AND immediately started went on to become some of the best quarterbacks in the league? There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
The Packers had Favre starting for them....not Chad Henne. Do you think our fans are that patient?
If that RV sales place wants Tebow in Jax bad enough to take out a billboard saying as much.....they should just HIRE him.
Quote:The Packers had Favre starting for them....not Chad Henne. Do you think our fans are that patient? Fan patience is completely irrelevant. If this team allows fan sentiment to determine personnel moves, we're screwed. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I agree about the irrelevance. However the vibe in the stadium when Henne throws his sixth int in four games...heck there'd be groans after consecutive three and outs

What is the vibe in the stadium going to be when Bortles is thrown to wolves before he's ready and is eaten alive by NFL defenses?
"This guy sucks!! We got another Gabbert!! He's not a franchise QB. blah, blah, blah." We already got threads full of people claiming Bortles has a weak arm because there's a video of him throwing a flutterball in rookie minicamp. Then do we have discard Bortles and draft another 1st round next year to appease the fickle knee jerk sentiments of fans? We show less advertisements to registered users. Some Qb's need just time rather it's on the bench or not
Favre was so bad he was traded to Greenbay Steve Young was kicked out of Tampa Bay Rodgers spent years on the bench The main factor is playing vs non playing. You can make a case for both sides if it's beneficial to play a QB right away or sit him on the bench. It depends on the individual ![]()
Quote:Fan patience is completely irrelevant. This X 1000
Quote: Yep, just shows how incredibly stupid some of our fans are. But thats also not unique to the Jaguars. Thats typical of many NFL fans these days. The cerebral fan is a dying breed. The fan with the brain the size of a pea is on the upswing. |
