Quote:The sad thing is if someone disagrees with it they are labeled a bigot, which couldn't be further from the truth. Not necessarily labeled a bigot - just stupid. We're talking about one employee denigrating the actions of another employee. You don't see that an employer has the right to take punitive action? Despite people like TMD playing the victim, people don't have an unlimited right to free speech. You can say whatever you want, just be man enough to deal with the consequences. There is no constitutional right to play in the NFL.
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote: I'm not saying anyone is a bigot. While I disagree that having cameras following him around automatically means he isn't focused on football, I will say that if I'm Fisher, I'm not happy about it as at the very least it will draw unwanted attention to the player and the team. What a player does off the field is not an indicator of how focused on football they are, how they handle it is. Every player has distractions of the field, if they can't manage them, then they fail. Adrian Peterson kept playing hard through the death of his son for heavens sake, if he can do that you think another player can't deal with a camera crew for a few hours a day? The fact that its pretty hard to put a definative answer on what being 100% focused on football means shows what an irrelevent term it is. If Michael Sam is doing all the things he is supposed to be doing with regards to practice and staying in shape, then he is doing his job. Justin Blackmon, while clearly having major issues, was just a passed drugs test away from being what any lay person would consider 100% focused on football. he would be practicing every day, working hard (so the coaches said) and playing football to a high level. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.
Quote:So I was correct and now you can't figure out a way to back out of it so you're just trying to act like I don't understand? No, I was incorrect when I said you cant be that dumb.....because you have proven by this response that you are.
Quote:I'm not saying anyone is a bigot. There is a reason many football teams don't want Hard Knocks to follow their team around all preseason. It changes the dynamic. There are things players and coaches cant do or say in front of the camera that they would normally say if they weren't around. They have to "watch their back." It would be the same thing if Oprah and crew decided to film them. It is a distraction, which makes you less than 100% focused on football. We show less advertisements to registered users. That's ludicrous. He said OMG, and Horrible. Not to mention the Horrible was in reply to a question posed by someone else. Remember the CB from Seattle last year, Browner? The NFL slandered his name, and continued doing so. It went to court (may still be fighting it I am not sure). Did the NFL apologize or recant what they claimed? Nope, fight on in court baby. Now the shoe is on the other foot here and it is deemed wrong.

Getting married, having a kid and throwing a birthday party are 'distractions' from football, but I wouldn't imagine people would say football players shouldn't do these things. If Sam lets it distract him from football, then he isn't 100% focused on football and he is more likely to fail, just like the guy who is distracted with worry about his sick mother, or the guy distracted by his messy divorce, or the guy who is distracted by his addiction to pain killers. If he doesn't let it distract him, he will be like 95% of the rest of the league who have busy, messy, complicated lives off the field and who get on with it. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.

Filming a whole preseason or having cameras around all the time isnt jut affecting Michael Sam. Rookies have a role on a team. They do the brunt work. It's been that way in high school, college, pros....He needs to take his lumps and make the team just like every other rookie. Next I'm going to hear how that shouldn't be allowed. Comparing apples to oranges there. As is the example of players having kids, getting married/divorced, etc.

Quote:Filming a whole preseason or having cameras around all the time isnt jut affecting Michael Sam. What has a film crew following him around on his free time got to do with other rookies or players on the team? If they were to come into the locker room with him, yeah, thats an issue, but one the Rams would be able to prevent. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.
Quote:What has a film crew following him around on his free time got to do with other rookies or players on the team? Not only did the Rams prevent it, they flat out told them they couldn't film anywhere on their property. They obviously thought it was going to have some sort of effect. I'm going to trust their judgement. Quote:What has a film crew following him around on his free time got to do with other rookies or players on the team?A show on TV dedicated to one player who has done nothing. Yea, that wouldn't cause a stir in the locker room one bit.

As is the example of players having kids, getting married/divorced, etc. Hard knocks sends cameras into the homes of players to film them talking to their hot wives in tiny shorts about non-football related things. It has nothing to do with football and the players chosen for that 'honor' are selected purely for the quality of their personality and the hotness of their wife. That part of Hard Knocks is pure Oprahvision. Kids, weddings, sick family members, messy divorces, reality TV shows and addictions are all examples of the same thing. They are things in a person's life that take a person's time and energy. They all have the potential to distract a person from their job and they can all be managed by a person who has the frame of mind to manage them correctly. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles. And the show is centered around football, not the other way around.

It seems like every third day there is an issue with an NFL player doing something dumb. Now we're wrong because we think a show like Hard Knocks is a distraction to a football team. Whats next?
Quote:A show on TV dedicated to one player who has done nothing. Yea, that wouldn't cause a stir in the locker room one bit. No more than having an over paid free agent, a cocky rookie or a total [BLEEP]. I imagine most locker rooms have several of each. Quote:Not only did the Rams prevent it, they flat out told them they couldn't film anywhere on their property. So it will have nothing to do with anyone else in the Rams organization? Then it can't really affect them that much. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles.

Most teams have several of each. But those guys don't get a show dedicated to them. At the very least maybe some of of those overpaid morons have done something on the field to deserve some sort of one on one show about them. You truly believe the second line?

Quote:LOL, and what makes you think the 90 or so guys that start on an NFL roster at the beginning of the year can handle any of that? Nobody is asking 90 guys to do anything. 1 man is going to have a show, he is the only one who has to do anything. If he allows himself to be distracted by it all, then he probably wont make the team and that will be his own fault. 3 the last 4 teams on Hard Knocks made the playoffs. The evidence strongly suggests its not that big of a deal. Quote:And? There are multiple guys being selected for that part of the show each season. Not one person singled out to do the show. And the show is centered around football, not the other way around. You can't have it both ways. Either a camera crew following you around at home as part of a reality TV show is a major distraction or it isn't. If it's not a distraction for multiple guys selected for a camera crew to follow them around to watch their daily lives as part of Hard Knocks, then how can it be different for Sam? Just because they edit it together for a 1 hour show that focuses mainly on football, doesn't mean those cameras in those players lives are any less intrusive at the time than the ones that will follow Sam. Quote:Just to be different, Bortles. Quote:Nobody is asking 90 guys to do anything. 1 man is going to have a show, he is the only one who has to do anything. That would cause a distraction in the locker room for sure. There have been off the record, published remarks already, and has been pointed out already as well, The Rams basically put the kibosh on it too. Add in the fact that the team would get bombarded with questions when the show did start by media. You think they want to answer a multitude of questions each day on a player who has done nothing about his own show? There's a reason it got nixed.
