Quote:last I heard they were about to resign Shorts so I doubt he gets cut this season if that's the case.

You might want to polish those comprehension skills....I'm not suggesting that Shorts will or should be "cut" at all.

Traded? Yes.

Uh, oh.....this is going to agitate the "WE MUST START BORTLES IMMEDIATELY!!" <bangs fist on table> crowd....

per rotoworld:

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed on SportsCenter the Jaguars want Chad Henne to start all 16 games this season.

The Jags want No. 3 overall pick Blake Bortles to tote a clipboard as a rookie. "They do not want to put (Bortles) out there at all this season," Schefter insisted. "They want Henne to play, ideally, this entire season." The best way for the Jags to execute this plan would be to lean extremely heavily on their running game, and play competitive week-to-week defense. It will be tough, but certainly isn't out of the question if they can flirt with .500. It doesn't hurt that the Jags play in the league's weakest division. Toby Gerhart is going to be a bellcow back.

There's only like 3 people tops who are ZOMGZ we have to start him now.

Most prefer he starts because I/we feel a qb can develop better by actually playing.

When a QB is actually ready, yes, they can develop better by playing at that point.

Blake is not Teddy. Teddy, of all the QB in this draft would be the one that would seem most ready to start - and even Minnesota isn't guaranteeing they will start him immediately...

Blake is raw; not ready to start yet. The Jags brass knows this. He might not be ready to start until 2015. Thats why they are saying the kinds of things as in that rotoworld snippet.

Sorry. I should have said that you want him traded AND cut. My mistake.

The ideal situation is that  the Jags are in 8-8 or 9-7 range with Henne, and they're in playoff contention until the end of Week 17.

If the Jags are out of playoff contention at the end of the year, I'm sure they'll give Bortles at least a half in Week 17 just to take the temperature of where his progress is.

I just went back and checked....still don't see me saying that I thought he would be/ or wanted him "cut".

Saying he wasn't a lock for the final 53 doesn't automatically mean I think he'd be "cut". As said, traded? yes. Not cut.

Let their meltdown begin!

Gus and Dave have been saying this was their plan from the moment they walked out of the war room on May 8th to meet the press.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Thats more optimistic than I see it playing out, but I just hope that even if we're a 5 win team that they still stick to the script and not insert Bortles into the starting lineup until he's ready. Don't cave into the neanderthals.

Yep, as long as they stay strong with that plan, things will work out.

You have to finish Tailhook before entering the Advanced Strike Pipeline.

Blake is still flying T-45's, he is not ready for F-18's.

Bortles is a very promising Cadet getting ready to graduate, still needs few more hours.

His Sea Daddy, Dave grabbed him early before other Commands could.

Patience, he will play sooner not later, but not before.

It can be surprising how far a team can go playing defense, great special teams, winning turnover differential and shorting the game with a running offense.   You're not going to be a serious contender, but it seems every year some unexpected team swings 6-8 wins from year to year doing it. 2013 it was the Chiefs.  2012 the Vikings.    Particularly if you play in a weak division with a favorable schedule with about 6-7 opponents who will beat themselves with stupid mistakes.    I remember Bill Parcells going 10-6 his first year in Dallas with Quincy Carter as his QB and Troy Hambrick as his RB using that formula.

I'm not saying the Jags will be that team, but I recognize that's what they're shooting for.

I don't get the impression these guys are going to allow fan sentiment to influence their football decisions.

Whats that old adage?...."when you start listening to the fans regarding personnel moves, you soon find yourself out there with them"?....or something like that?.... Laughing

If they let fan sentiment determine their decisions, they certainly won't be employed for long.

These guys have a plan.   From top to bottom, they've got this scripted out, and I doubt you're going to see much deviation from what they intend to do barring injury.  It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see them go out and sign another veteran backup as an insurance policy in the event Henne gets hurt.
