uh, I think Brady had great players (Corey Dillion, Rodney Harrison, Seymour, Wilfork, T. Johnson, Vrabel, Brushi, Samuel) and Peyton Manning had pretty decent players in Marvin Harrison, Reg Wayne, Dallas Clark, Saturday, Freeney, Mathis ....


I'm not so certain Brady and Manning didn't have better players then the Steelers during their SB years.

I agree with this. I would add that he needs to be good enough to consistently lead them to the playoffs and play his best in big games. Russell Wilson may never reach the level of Brady or Manning, but he is good enough to regularly take Seattle to the playoffs if the players around him are good enough. That's all I can ask from Bortles- anything more is just gravy.

I believe he can be a top tier QB, I like his game his pocket presence his pocket movement. He has the software to be a top tier QB just have to develop him. This could set up for a great rivalry between the Colts and the Jags with two great young QBs going at it for the next 10 plus years.

I think we're mixing "style" and "accomplishments"

 

At the end of the day, If Bortles is the next Ben, Rivers, Flacco, or Eli then I'll take that.  If we ever get to the point in 4 or 5 years where we are even thinking about a $125 million dollar contract with Bortles then I'm happy.  Even with the cost of money factored in ....

I'm going to mix up two different podcast here but it was interesting to note on either Mon or Tue's Jaguars Today, Dempsey had on either O'halloran (Mon) or Dirocco (tue) and they briefly discussed the difference in play calling when each quarterback is in. Dempsey asked the guest if he thought it looked like they were running some different plays with Bortles to which the guest replied it looked like a whole different playbook.

 

They alluded to much more rolling out/pocket movement type stuff when Bortles was in.

Pretty much.  Nobody remembers Miami's Quarterback from a few years ago.  I think his name was Dave Moreno... or maybe it was Don Mora.  I don't know.  Or the Oilers QB... Walter Sun I think was his name.

History shows us that you do not need a top tier QB to win superbowls.  You just need a QB who is good enough.

Peyton Manning doesn't, so he's a scrub. Brees only has one himself, so I know I wouldn't want him at #3 overall. Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers only have one a piece, so let's just table that talk for now.

 

Looks like he's going to have to be Eli Manning or Ben Roethlisberger in order to live up to the hype.

That is the eternal question. Do you want to have a QB is so good he demands to be one of if not the highest paid QBs in the league? Or do you have a secord or 3rd teir one who you won't have to pay as much which allows you to build a better over all team?
