I have no idea how you can call Florida's defense porous. Bridgewater has put up good numbers against even the good secondaries he has faced. UF had probably 3-4 1st rounders and several more draftable players in their secondary. He also put up numbers against UConn and Syracuse last year.

Florida wasn't nearly the team last year as they are this year. And offensively is really where FL struggled, which gave the Cards many more chances. But continue to join the flocks of those who cherry pick for arguments.

Boyd had one of if not his best game against Syracuse so far this season if that's a school you wanna use for reference.

What I'm saying, and you're missing, is that if LOUISVILLE played steeper competition than they are now, Ohio, Eastern Ky, KY[bottom feeders of the SEC] (who held Teddy to 250 yds and 1 td), Temple, that he wouldn't post such ridiculous numbers. Heck, not even that he WOULDN'T just that it is POSSIBLE he wouldn't.

 

Sure if you put him in place of McCarron on Bama's team he'd likely still be a star. But how does he do under real pressure. How will he do when he comes to the hapless Jags and plays steep competition in and out.

 

Once again.... to be clear... I'm not really doubting what is obvious. Guys like Teddy and Manziel got the moves and the stats... but so did Tebow (NO I'm not saying they are the same). Lots of guys get the stats and look the part. I want a guy who's been on the losing end and fought back. I want a guy that has dealt with some adversity and who is mature and won't come to the big boy league and be swallowed up or shrink.

I'm no psychic, so I can't say Teddy WILL do that or that Boyd WON'T. But I am not one of the masses completely sold on a kid who has played a lot of nobodies in 2 and about a half a season of college ball.

This kid was sold as #1 overall QB before this season even started. It is quite silly.

Kind of like Clowney being sold as a sure fire thing(#1 overall)... when all I can see is a quitter. A get paid and sit down Albert Haynesworth style player.

I'd feel more comfortable with a 24-25 year old rookie who has seen the ups and downs and ran a pro offense against legit D's and put up solid and sometimes great numbers, moreso than a kid that just runs all over the likes of Temple.

Like I said before... I remember when Gabs was the consensus #1 and he slid to 10, and we "stole" him there. Anytime you pick #1 overall it is a gamble. I'd roll my dice with someone else is all I'm saying. In a couple years, no matter who drafts who, feel free to bring this post back up and say "I told you so" if I'm wrong.

If that was the case, Tommy Chang would have been the #1 pick coming out of Hawaii. No one is harping on Teddy's stats. It's his accuracy, arm strength, pocket presence, and football IQ that many people are falling in love with.

 No one is completely sold on anyone but if I am starting a team, today, and had to choose a QB from college to do so, I would choose Teddy over everyone. So would just about every NFL GM right now as well as the analysts.

 

QB's come from everywhere. Not just big time conferences. If Teddy came out last year, he probably would have been #1 overall. Yes he plays against mediocre competition but its not his fault who he plays. He played against Florida and rocked them. If he plays in a bowl game against your boy Murray this year, I bet he smokes them too.

Regardless whether UF was as good last year as this, their defense was still one of the best in the country.


Syracuse is terrible this year. They lost Nassib on offense and Shamarko on defense. Last year they had a talented secondary.


Youre laughing at UConns defense last year? It was one of the best in the country with Blidi Wreh-Wilson and Dwayne Gratz both being 3rd rounders and Sio Moore being an elite pass rusher as well.

I'm neither ignorant, nor am I being ridiculous.  I know your schtick well enough to know that you've probably got a draft thread ready to go the next time something goes wrong for Blackmon where you'll be suggesting he would be great trade bait.  It's not a reach, and you know it because any time a player gets to the point where he's starting to show promise, you're concocting trade scenarios between batches or french fries.

 

You do this so you can tell everyone you're the smartest guy in the room since nobody else is doing that for you.

Weeden was a 28 year old rookie and didn't play against anybody and I thought he was a horrible choice in any round.

Gabbert rarely actually showed the ability. He flashed some ability here and there, that combined with his measurements made him a top 10 pick.

On the other hand.

Bridgewater routinely shows the ability, week in and week out.

That doesn't make sense. Florida's offense was bad all year and they shut down some powerful offenses regardless. They were a top defense, but somehow this game doesn't count because of their offense. Not to mention that somehow a bad offense equates to a "porous defense" as you said.


Louisville doesn't play an SEC type schedule, but quit trying to discredit Teddy's performances against the good defenses he goes against.

I really think Blackmon and Cecil complement each other well. Blackmon is more a physical guy that you should feed underneath. Shorts is more of a speed guy that can create some separation deep. Hopefully Ace can develop into a good slot guy.

Gabbert never seemed like a beast in college. He was drafted on pure potential along.

 

IIRC he actually regressed from his sophmore to junior year. Also, didn't play in pro style offense like Teddy.

Pretty much ALL of Floridas defense last year is going to be drafted, or was already this past year. They were a top 5 defense in CFB without question, Teddy shreded them almost every series.

 

Also, the UConn defense had multiple day 2 draft picks. So yeah that is some decent competition.

Getting back on subject, I think Justin and Cecil are both going to be great players in their own way. If I had to only choose one I would pick Cecil though. You cant teach speed, and his after the catch ability is similar to JBs as well. Cecil just has to improve on his concentration more.
