i kinda go by the idea of being able to entertain a thought without accepting it. I still have opinions but I try to keep them unbiased and evidence based.

i hate this argument.  A sack is a sack is a sack (unless it's in garbage time)

even in garbage time it's a sack. Counts all the same in the record books.

It still isn't sustainable and it exposes your defense to allow him to do that.

Sack numbers is a garbage statistic anyway.

Quote:IF YOU DON'T THINK HE'S A GOOD DE THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU EVEN START A CONVERSATION WITH ME, IF THAT'S THE CASE WE'VE BEEN ARGUING OVER ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND YOU DID START THIS ARGUMENT BECAUSE i DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING TO YOU.

And like I said before, he got a ton of snaps, he's clearly going to get some sacks. Even Mincey had 8 sacks in 2011? (maybe 2012 can't remember) and he actually earned his, it wasn't a cute little fancy stunt every time.

Consider this. If Branch is as "worthless" as you say "being schemed to produce statlines". Wouldn't Branch be out the door at this point? The coaches would know hes just going against air and isn't a real DE? So why keep him?

Yet this man not only clings to a roster spot but is on the cusp of solidifying his role within the entire team. Nobody is calling him the next big thing but he sure as heck deserves to be here. I remember Ernest Wilferd, Joe Z, Russel Allen, etc. all becoming that type of role. A backup that is consistently decent.

Quote:almost all of his sacks were him running free with no blockers, don't think he's gonna get so lucky 10 times

A myth perpetrated by the other website. Lord forbid him he execute his assignment to achieve the desired result. Condemning a guy for producing in the scheme is simply genius.

Sounds a LOT like Buddy Ryan saying "all's he does is catch touchdowns" about Chris Carter.

This sounds like sad parroting of the other websites agenda against Branch. They say he's going to be cut any day now, just as they did last year.

To say he sucks is ridiculous

Quote:I don't have to challenge your non-existant intellect, you do not have a clue what you're talking about. So far what I've got from your post are as follows:

~ You think i'm upset because we got production from well thought out play designs - Clearly false, all I said was that Branch is not good, just because he benefited from a scheme that pitted him 1 on 1 with air does not make him good.  Oh and he still had a sub par season.

~ You think that Branch shed a block in that sack against the Texans when all he did was run through a lame attempt of a block by the linemen who was falling over, Branch didn't hardly even notice him.

~ You're trying to defend a DE who has 7 career sacks in 29 games and has only gotten 1 of said sacks by legit beating his man 1 on 1, without a specially designed play to get him alone. in 29 games! Give me a break

You really need to stop acting like you know everything, you don't.

He executed his assignment perfectly here, for the love of God......

Had contain, then beat the block and had the speed to close on the QB.

You don't want these guys on your team?

Quote:Schemed.

I wonder.......if every player successfully executed their portion of the scheme....what happens?

I've heard rumors that coaches are paid to put players in a position to succeed as well.

I bet coaches HATE guys who successfully execute the play they drew up. I bet they CAN'T WAIT to get rid of guys who do this.

I highly doubted that Branch could get double digit sacks this season if he was starting in the LEO role, but looking at the potential depth chart with competition from Chris Clemons (Starter), J. Babin (alternate reps), and the rookie leo drafted Chris.  Branch will be lucky to get 2 sacks this season if he remains on the team.

I've never seen someone so adamant in shaming a player on their favorite team. It's like he wants Branch to be terrible.

It's unbelievable. Saying he sucks and his calling him garbage.. He wouldn't say that to his face though, no way.

Pathetically, this is exactly the case.

There is a whole segment of them dedicated to parroting the opinion set forth on the other website and they will battle adamantly anyone who believes (or even hopes) for the contrary.

Branch could put up 12 sacks and he'd still be "garbage" because the team employed scheme to take advantage of the offense and his skills in achieving what the scheme dictates.

It seems to come from insecurity and a desperate desire to prove how smart someone is, more than anything else.

He's a role player, kid has speed for a DE and it clearly is useful but he's not a starting DE in this league he's bad. He's a situational pass rusher at best.

that dosent make him bad.. That makes him good role player who may not start but will still produce in this defense.

Sigh..

In 29 games he had about 7 sacks. That's not good production.

couple things to keep in mind.. How many of those games did he start? How many different schemes did he play in? 5 sacks in his last 7 games is good production and shows he has potential in this defense. He's also not breaking he bank and seems to be really impressing the coaches.
