Sounds like Garoppolo was his last fallback option. First was obviously Bortles, second was WR then trade up for Teddy, third was trade down from 3 to wherever and take Carr if Evans and Watkins were both gone, fourth was simply Garoppolo at 39.

I am just inferring from several quotes from Dave since the draft. All paraphrased...Bortles was far and away #1 player, they never seriously considered DE in the first round, if Clowney was available at 3 they would have traded down to get picks + Evans/Watkins/Matthews, they liked Evans over Watkins, Carr was the #2 QB but their second scenario if Bortles was gone was take WR then trade back up to get Teddy.

 

Inferring from those tidbits that we know, I think the WR/Teddy scenario was assuming that Carr would be off the board by then as he was heavily rumored to go to any of the Cardinals, Browns, or Vikings. If they traded down too far and Bortles, Evans, and Watkins were all gone then I think (think) they would have taken Carr with that pick in the first round.

I prefer Bortles + Lee + Robinson over only Teddy and Evans (if we move to 5 Sammy is gone, and lose a 3rd) . Bortles was my 2nd QB but I think surrounding him with two potential #1 WRs is better than only Mike Evans, who is very good but not a top 5 WR imo.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

One thing I remember from last year is that as transparent as the Jags were suppose to be, there was still subterfuge concerning the Darft Board afterwards. I wouldn't be suprised if there were not some deflections still ongoing in statements or reporters (D.Roc) are assuming from conversations rather than outright statements from Caldwell and Co. I am very pleased with the initial outcome of the Darft and we can hypothesize all we want about which direction it could have gone, good chess and poker players are still tight lipped after they win, don't want to give away to much.

 

As far as who the second choice of QB would have been, meh, your a second choice for a reason.

I wonder who Gus Bradley's highest rated CB was,  whether Dave Caldwell shared the same opinion,  and if yes,  whether that CB would have been a prime Jaguars target if the Jaguars traded down lower than pick # 6?

 At the very least,  Kyle Fuller looks like a great fit for the Bears base Tampa Two Defense and the variations.   One advantage Kyle Fuller has compared to most NFL prospects is he has a couple of brothers that have been in the NFL.   If WR Corey Fuller,  who was a teammate of Kyle's at Va. Tech in 2012,   makes the Lions 53 man roster and lasts to Thanksgiving Day,  the two Fuller's could be going head to head.  

 

 If Aaron Donald would have lasted one more pick to # 14,   it would have been interesting to see if the Bears would have drafted Donald or still went with Kyle Fuller.  Donald also would have been a great fit for them.

I'm fine with what happened. I never thought Clowney would really fall to us anyways. I like the WR's we picked, I'm hoping Blake becomes a star.

At one point in the draft I thought the Texans were going to draft Bortles and that Clowney might have fallen to #3 but then the media really hyped up Clowney and it became obivious he was going to go #1 overall.
