In the $30K & under venue, what do you think is the best vehicle for the money?

Hyundai I'd put up with any of the Japanese manufactured cars today, Kia on the other hand is still hit or miss on some models.

Quote:Many models still have a way to go, but take a peek at the latest kia optima or Hyundai genesis. The Genesis? ....thats the one (the coupe version) with the goofy looking sagging rear window, right?....as if it was punched in the eye, lol. Not sure why they just didn't keep the angle straight. Would have looked much better. Quote:I think the Optima is a pretty sweet looking car. Definitely in the upper range of coolness for that price category. The Optima is a decent looking car, I agree. Took awhile to grow on me, though. Quote:The Genesis? ....thats the one (the coupe version) with the goofy looking sagging rear window, right?....as if it was punched in the eye, lol. The sedan version is very sharp though. Also - Despite our gripe w the coupe- lots of folks seem to like it. Not everyone has such elevated taste I suppose B) Quote:I have a family member that sold them back around 2007-2010. He said they got better every year. I rented a sonata a while back and it was nice. The front wheel drive affected the feel of steering a little too much for my taste - but I'm accustomed to AWD or RWD cars. Still - I've driven Hondas and VWs that didn't have that mildly odd feeling in the steering wheel that I got from the Sonata. A good friend of mine is a Hyundai mechanic locally. He has nothing bad to say about the cars. They're priced right, reliable, well equipped, and have a great warranty. We're looking at the Genesis right now as one of the vehicles on our list. For the money, you're getting a quality vehicle with all the bells and whistles. For TMD, I'd suggest looking for a Miata. That's got you written all over it. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Older miatas are some pretty great deals. If you can get over the stigma, or hot rod it to make it seem like it has more testosterone, you'll be driving a fun, cheap, low maintenance vehicle for a long time. Your girl probably won't mind being seen in it, either. Since you guys HAVE to go new, check out the Scion FR-S/Subaru FR-Z. 200 HP, great on gas, looks like a Triumph GT6 - without the 70s British car reliability issues. And I like the Genesis's backside, thank you very much. Quote:A good friend of mine is a Hyundai mechanic locally. He has nothing bad to say about the cars. The Honda Accord is a nice car.

I've had one, and it was a really fun (and reliable, and very economical for a sporty) little car. Though, I wouldn't have one as a primary vehicle for sure.

Quote:Don't knock it until you drive it. I have a friend that traveled to Arizona to purchase one of the older Miatas. Guy loves the thing so much he posts videos of himself driving in it almost every day on Facebook. Makes me laugh. Quote:I hear they come with a matching sweater to tie around your neck. Even better... that's what the seat belt is made of. After thinking about it... if I had 30K in my hand and were forced to spend it on a car, I'd take a Tacoma and be very happy.

Quote:Even better... that's what the seat belt is made of. Tacoma's still run under $30K? Quote:Tacoma's still run under $30K?If you forego the fancy trim packages. (wheels, grills, painted bumpers) http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp...listType=1
Or go newly used, but they can be hard to find. You might get lucky finding someone who traded it in for something bigger etc.
But be warned, they don't last long on the used market. You have to be ready to pull the trigger fast (so be sure it's what you want, and be prepared to buy.) Worth stretching for, if you're in the ballpark IMO.

Quote:VW Jetta GLI Is this the Diesel version? I heard the Jetta Diesel gets like 45 mpg; like 700-800 miles per 14 gallon tank!! Quote:The Honda Accord is a nice car. I'm convinced that the 1989 Honda Accord coupe was the best car ever built for the money. Good looking, reliable, European car-like suspension/ feel, reasonably priced, good gas milage, loved the pop up headlights too. |
