Why would Babin be lucky to make the final 53? He had a turn around very similar to Branch in the late part of last season and led the team in sacks. He isn't going anywhere.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he would be lucky to make the final 53, but it's just as crazy as you guaranteeing him a spot. There is no way his roster spot is a gimmee.

Babin only makes sense this year because of the paycut and the ability to use him sparingly/keep him fresh provided by having Clem and Branch.  He could be effective at 34 y.o. if he's only playing 25% of the snaps at the position.  

Obviously, with the number of potential LEOs on the roster at the moment - he'll have to prove he's able to contribute to stick around.   I think he will.

I'm not sure if his job is 100% secure, but the team felt they needed to bring him back as an insurance policy, and as long as he's able to produce, and to mentor the younger players, I doubt there's a huge sense of urgency from the front office to dump him.  The guy took a cut in salary to remain here.

People always point to the improvement of guys like Cyprien, Marcedes Lewis and even Branch towards the end of last season, but Babin had a similar resurgence totaling 5.5 sacks in the last 7 games. That equates to 12.5 if extrapolated over a full season. I realize that he is old, but he hasn't really shown too many signs of wear and tear. Guys who are going off a cliff tend to see big drops in production late in the season and with Babin that just wasn't the case. He still has a little something left in him and I see him finishing his career as a Jag. He may not play off the full 3 years of his contract, but I'm pretty confident that he makes the team this season.

highly doubt he will be cut... if that was even a  possibility, why would we have not tryed to deal him out for some picks? he's a young second round pick and his arrow is pointing up, we could have probably gotten a 3rd or a 4th for him easy....cutting him makes no since to me.

the difference with the exception of Lewis is age. If Babin gets best out or a younger guy shows more long term promise I could certainly see him getting cut.

I don't expect to see the team cut him, but I don't think his roster spot is guaranteed either.  A lot of things can happen between now and the end of training camp.  We'll see.

He's a rotational DE. He may be 34, but he's not going to get as many snaps next year which should help for an older player. Also, he hasn't shown many signs of wear and tear, as he actually got much better as it got deeper into the season, which is pretty rare for a 34 year old. If he can repeat and get around 7.5 sacks next season on fewer snaps, then I think we can consider it a successful season for Babin. I would be shocked to see him cut, honestly. Also, another interesting statistic is last season he posted an AV of 6 (trailing only Poz on the team), which is good for 4th best season of his career, even though he played some of the worst football of his career for the first 9 games. What to take from that? The last 7 games from last season was about the best stretch of football Babin has played in the NFL from a statistical standpoint. That's why I'm pretty confident in him going forward.

Why do the people on this forum have a hard time understanding words? I'm saying his sack numbers were inflated by playcalling, he didn't do anything special to get those sacks, and his amount of pressures and his ability to stop the run was just as bad as it was the previous year. His 1 sack in his rookie year was far more impressive than any of his sacks this year because he beat his guy one on one, this year almost all of his sacks was him running against air. 

So if an offensive coordinator uses route combinations/formation to exploit certain areas of coverage and gets a particular receiver open, does that mean the receiver that benefits on those plays isn't particularly good because of those instances?
