Kaepernick Contract Extension

Quote:No, he' not getting 10 mil a year. He's getting 20 mil a year with half of it paid in advance. What do you know about the incentives? Have you seen the contract?

This will be the going rate for franchise quarterbacks.

He's getting 20 mil a year with half of it paid in advance.Even if he's being paid $20 millions next season, that salary will come from the $61 million guarenteed, which is the only number that really matters. And his guarenteed money spread over six years, not three years like that of Romo and Cutler. Unless Kaep plays gawd-like for the next six years, he won't even see 80 percent of that $121 million. I'm not sure why people are so sensitive when they see questionable top 10 players getting big contract. Flacco, Romo, Cutler, Ryan, and even Kaep aren't going to get paid every dollars off their contact. Quote:Record $61M guaranteed. The alternative is risk losing him to free agency, and they have to start finding a new QB. Romo, Cutler, Stafford and Bradford all got paid. I'd much rather pay Kaep, who still has a lot of potential, than Romo, Cutler and Stafford. But guess what? Romo, Cutler, Ryan, Stafford and Flacco have set the market. What make you think he won't get paid within their range (+/- $5millions)? We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
At least in part, this contract is a reflection of the 49ers expecting the NFL Salary Cap to go up substantially the next few seasons.
Doesn't the cap increase after each year?
I'm still not sure why people are so worked up over Kaep's contract. The guaranteed money of $61 million, granted it is a lot, is spread over 6 years. Now consider Romo's $55 millions guaranteed for 3 years, and Cutler's $54 millions for 3 years (by the way, Rodgers is guaranteed $62 millions for his first three years as well), Kaep's contract, if it is indeed for 6 full years, is pretty fair considering that he's one of the league's rising QB.
the point is, its guaranteed. If he has a career ending injury or retires in a month, technically he still gets the 61 million. Also he is a mediocre QB. Even if they're splitting it up, if he gets cut in 2 years for poor play they still have to pay it and no one is gonna trade for him.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Sooner or later one of these teams is going to let the QB walk for that kind of money. He's going to end up getting somewhere between $18-$20 mil per year with salary and incentives. And that's for a guy who has a career completion percentage of less than 60%. If this is what he got, then I can only imagine what Wilson and Cam are going to get.
Over/Under for Cam and Wilson guaranteed $$ @ $70 Mil. I'd almost take the over if I'm putting money on it. Funny thing though, this is still less money than baseball players get that aren't even considered elite. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I just don't see Kaepernick being worth that kind of money. I don't think he's any more than a middle-of-the-road quarterback on a really good team.

I'm not sensitive, I just don't he's yet proven as an elite QB, but it's not my money, so I don't really care. Again, have you seen the contract? What are the "incentives/requirements" for the full amount? What is the annual breakdown?
When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.
With the way he plays aswell, its likely he's bound to start picking up injuries like Vick did. SF must be praying he steps it up and starts playing to the level they're paying him, because currently he's nowhere near that.
Quote:I'm fairly certain the 121 million number matters to Kap, his agent and the team, depending on how it plays out with their cap situation.Lol...I don't know you keep focusing on $121 millions as though he's actually being paid that amount for six years. He's not; he's only guaranteed half of that amount. When Drew Brees wanted to hold out during his contract negotiation, he held out because he wanted more guaranteed money. I don't need to know what incentives/clauses are in his contract. That overall number is just that, the total money he could ideally earn, but most likely not. Vick signed a $100 million contract with the Eagles after 2010. McNabb signed $80 million with the Redskins after he got traded. Do you think they are at home laying on a bed of money from that contract right now? If Kaep somehow makes $90 million out of his $120 million contract in six year, that means he became the players the 49ers wanted him to be, and its a win-win for both parties. You pay him for what he could become in the future, not what he did in the past.
Wow, the 49ers just hit their decline. Shame for them that Seattle is there to hold them down while they're in their window of opportunity.

Quote:This will be the going rate for franchise quarterbacks. Yep. The 49ers are just getting a leg up on NFL reality a little in advance and getting the QB position cost controlled while the cap ceiling sky rockets in the next few years under new TV contract revenue. There's currently a $50 billion dollar merger between AT&T and DirectTV that's completely and wholly dependent on DirectTV retaining Sunday Ticket rights. If they can't retain the rights, a $50 billion dollar merger is nullified. In other words, they basically have to cut the NFL a blank check. Sunday Ticket is just the sampler appetizer for the main course. Wait until Disney, CBS/Viacom, NBC Universal and Fox start getting into a bidding war for the main broadcasting rights, particularly for prime time games. It's going to be mindblowing. That's not even including an outsider like Google deciding to sliver off some of their $60 billion of cash on hand to use NFL broadcasts as the foundation to launch a new Internet TV streaming service, similar to the way Fox used the NFL to create the 4th broadcast network. Quote:Unfortunately, yes. That's why the Jaguars have such a huge competitive advantage if they can properly develop Bortles. They have the QB position cost controlled until 2019 for peanuts. That's why they can't afford to squander it by screwing up his development with impatience for the sake of immediate gratification.
Apparently the people in SF think this contract is "team friendly" so I guess there is nothing to worry about??
Reminds me of the housing bubble. You can't keep pushing prices ridiculously high forever
