Granted, a roof being blown off of a house is a bit different but the point still holds even if a bit loosely. If the League moves to a four day event, so be it. Let's see how it plays out. I would think, however, that the actual draft on the fourth day is simply going to be a backdrop for human interest stories, press conferences, player / coach interviews, etc. Not like it isn't that way already, but it they are really going to need something to fill up all of that dead time.

If they want to put a franchise in LA, which they do, it makes all the sense in the world to move it to LA.

 

There's nothing particularly special about the draft being in NYC or why it should forever stay there.

 

I mentioned this in a draft thread this spring.  I wouldn't be surprised at all if they moved the draft to LA, or even London... at least on a one-off or trial basis, etc.  Those are the markets they are reaching out to, and it makes complete sense if they want to expand those efforts.

I think the push for 2 more playoff teams, an 18 game schedule, and an NFL team in London on a full-time basis, ...amongst others, are all ideas that will perhaps bring short term money but long term be detrimental to the league/ product. 

 

But to think those are Goodell ideas is silly.  He may support them, but I'm fairly certain he's not sitting in his office thinking this stuff up.  The owners are driving most of the changes because they see the dollar signs attached.

Plus, Los Angeles and London are both media hubs just like NYC.  Moving the venue to one of these markets, or really moving it anywhere would be a big deal for the league, and could spark even higher ratings and revenue opportunities than doing it in NYC.

It's going to be awfully difficult to maintain the ratings for the 7th round of the draft.  But, if they think they can make money off another day, so be it.  It's not impacting my life.

I can almost see them moving the sixth and seventh rounds to the internet, kind of an ESPN3 type of thing. I imagine that it would be a pretty hard sale to get a network to devote a chunk of time to the Sixth and Seventh Rounds unless they had something else to offer.

What else is the NFL Network going to talk about?  They can do draft analysis ad nauseum while the final rounds are running.

I think that's probably the plan (expanding to Sunday), and I don't know why anyone would be upset about this. 

 

As is the case with everything else the league does, it's about the money.  If they can stretch it out and make more money off of the draft, they're going to do it. 

 

I can't blame them for wanting to do this but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Probably follow the same format if they stretch it out again, I just enjoyed when it was all crammed in two days I could just sit drink and watch all weekend. Oh well

I actually watched almost the entire thing because I was really interested to see how the Jags maneuvered around from round to round.  I had it on while I was doing other stuff most of the weekend.

I never watch the entire draft.  Day 1, I just tune in for the Jags pick.  At least if it doesn't go to advertisement.  Day 2 and 3 I turn it on for background noise while following on the internet.  I get bored of the talking heads say the same thing over and over again.  I did listen to the first couple of picks this year.  Just to see who'd be available for the Jags.  I got sick of Gruden's love for Johnny Freefall.

Right now... I'm wondering if they add rounds to the draft as well.  (Which I'd be okay with, actually)
