I didn't see anything around here in the actual apartment complex type places for anywhere near that, but you can find stuff in that price range in privately owned apartment buildings throughout the area it seems.
What in the Wide Wide World of Sports is agoin' on here???

Depends on where you are. Jacksonville is so big and spread out that you can have a really nice section right near a scary section!!

. It's difficult to find places which out actually being there and knowing the neighborhoods. Found some really cheap places along the river but some of them look like they need a lot of work. So overall, do you like living in jax?

I'd keep tabs on sites like Craigslist Jax or Hotpads.com, every now and then you'll see a privately-owned rental go on the market for dirt cheap.

Based on what I've read it sounds like you'd enjoy Riverside. Great mix of restaurants and stores in Five Points, Memorial Park is awesome, bike friendly and a close distance to downtown/EB. The southside is very cookie-cutter in comparison, but you can also find some cheap apartments there too.

thanks man I'm kinda liking that area myself. Also looking along beach blvd as well since it seems to be a pretty central location to things.

That depends on where on Beach Blvd. you're talking about.  There are good and bad areas there just like anywhere else in town.

Beach Blvd doesn't go near the river.  Might want to take a look at your maps again.  Beach and Atlantic merge in the St. Nicholas area on the southside.  Atlantic actually runs parallel to the river.  Beach is further inland from the St. Johns and runs east -west parallel to Atlantic and JTB.  There are some extremely nice areas in San Marco that are close to the river, restaurants, and downtown.  It's an older area of town, but like Riverside, most of the apartments there have been updated and are in decent areas.

There's tons I like about Jacksonville, but I grew up here.  The beaches, the river, the people, the Jaguars, the laid back lifestyle, the small town feel despite being the most populous city in Florida.  The fact that we're in Florida, but we're not part of the touristy part of the state is extremely nice.  There's something for everyone in Jacksonville.  If you like to hunt or fish, attend the symphony, enjoy outdoor music events, enjoy the arts, or anything else.  There's something for everyone.  Even with the night life, there's plenty of that here.  Whether out at the beaches, or in town, there are plenty of places to go to be entertained or to just kick back and have a cold one.  You just have to look.  When people say the night life here sucks, it just means they haven't really explored.  There are plenty of clubs, bars, dives, and other venues.  We've got world class restaurants, and we've got hole in the wall diners that will knock your socks off.

If you like to golf, we've got more golf courses than just about any area of the country to pick from.  We're in an area of the state where you can visit some of the richest historical areas in the country, or you can visit the high tech hub of businesses on the southside.

Jacksonville offers all of the trappings of larger cities, and it also has that small town feel to it.

Like any other city, there are bad areas and good ones.  Anyone who has lived here more than a few years has experienced both.  It doesn't have the pretentiousness of Miami or Orlando.  It's pretty unique among mid to large size cities.
