Kaepernick Contract Extension

Quote:Gabbert won't see the field there unless there's an injury, or they've got everything locked up late in the season and they want to rest their guy.  I'm pretty sure that's the last thing they're worried about right now is his backup.

With Kaepernick's style it's not like an injury is out of the question. All it takes is one time not seeing a guy he doesn't spot behind a lineman diving into his knee to take him out for a year or longer.

Injuries happen all the time.  Whether you play in or out of the pocket...

Quote:I don't think they'll have to worry about him not working out.  He's already shown he can get this team to the top.  He's considered one of the more dynamic young QBs in the league.  He's already seen some success.  As long as he's playing for Harbaugh, I don't see him winding up failing.  He may not be the most dominant QB in the league, or elite statistically, but he makes plays and leads his team.  That's half the battle.
Kaep will never be a "stats" guy, I don't think, neither will Wilson.  But they both know how to make key plays when you need them to.  Though, I trust Wilson much more than Kaep.  Wilson will be "overpaid" too, depending on whose opinion it comes from.  However, you can't place a price on what they can do for their team.

right, but stating cliches doesnt change the fact that the frequency of moblie qb injuries is much higher than pocket passers... This is why vick could never play a full year... Its only a matter of of time before kaep gets wiped.

Then that must mean Russell Wilson, being of similar physical stature to Vick, will have an injury plague career like that of Vick, right?  Or did you not watch how Russell Wilson play outside the pocket and avoiding big hits?

Considering how Wilson keeps punking Kaepernick head to head and has already won a Superbowl I don't know how anyone could call him overpaid almost no matter what his contract is.

I'd rather have Wilson as my QB than Kaepernick.

I would, too.  Right now Wilson is better.

if he gets popped.. yup... u cant tell me a scrambling QB isnt riskier than a pocket passer... gimme one OLDER vet qb who made a career that was relatively  injury free and was a scrambling QB.... don't say Tarkenton either, that was a million years ago.... i personally cant think of one...brunell maybe kinda, but his knees eventually slowed him down for some reason, oh yeah injuries i think.

Yeah, IF he gets popped -- he hasn't. Why? Because he plays smart. Just because there hasn't been one doesn't meant there won't be one. Vick's mobility and scrambling were both a liability as well as an asset. He never learned how to properly play the position until he was cow he'd by Reid. Wilson is already twice the QB that Vick ever was. Scrambling ability is a HUGE asset if one learns how to play QB.

Tell me again which QB would you rather have: a pocket passer in Sam Bradford or a "scrambling" QB in Wilson? Which one do you think is "riskier"?
