The problem with Jacksonville is there is absolutely nothing to do around downtown.  If the Jaguars were able to have a hand in this, Jacksonville could be a cool destination for many.

 

One error I see is that the Jags play a mile from the St Johns.  I'd say less than a 1/4 mile, but this is actually a good write up by PFT for us.

They're pondering it pretty deeply.  Khan already has verbal commitments from a hotel chain, restaurants, and some retail.  If it moves forward, there will be some high profile announcements almost immediately.

For the first time, discussions about the shipyards and development are being had by people who are actually serious about doing something.  The fact that the Jaguars want to drive it is something that's been clear since Khan first indicated that if nobody else stepped up, he would. 

 

The plans they showed renderings of a short while back showed how it would look, and the centerpiece of it is an indoor practice facility and offices for the team.  If what I was told recently about the companies who have already said they'd participate in the development if Khan decided to spearhead it, it would really change the entire dynamic about what people think of life downtown.  We're talking about major restaurant, retail, and hotel companies who want to be part of the project.

When Khan said a homeless guy in Detroit has more mojo than the millionaires in Jacksonville, it offended some.  But, I thought it was spot on.  We've got quite a few millionaires here who simply have no vision, or at least not the kind of global, long-term vision Khan does.  I think he's made it his mission to drag them into the vision thing kicking and screaming, and I think it's great for the city.
