Let's be honest here.  While it was a mistake, it's a felonious one.

Because you don't punish an entire organization when a member makes a personal mistake. The Jaguars didn't get a cap penalty for Blackmon's mistakes either.

 

I think it has been made known that this isn't some kind of one night slip up.  His life seems to be characterized by abuse and intoxication.

 

The only "mistake" he made was getting caught in something he likely does regularly.  If the NBA can get rid of a guy for things he says in a private conversation, the NFL should be able to get rid of an owner who likes to drink and drive.

Toss in a bunch of illegal prescription pain pills in his possession, and it should be a no brainer.  Unfortunately, that won't be the case.  This whole thing will quietly disappear.

You don't penalize the team unless what he did earned some sort of competitive advantage.

 

This is a personal matter between the owner and the NFL. Making things more difficult for the people who actually run the operation doesn't punish the owner. If you want to punish the owner, you fine him.

 

It won't and shouldn't involve the organization.

So you're against player suspensions? When impact players get suspended it definitely punishes the whole team.

 

If you don't want the team impacted then punishment for players should never go beyond punitive fines.

What will a suspension do to an owner?  He's already handed over operations to his daughter, so for all intents and purposes, the only thing a suspension would do is block him from the facilities for a season.  Fining him is the only penalty that will have any teeth.
