"No, I was wrong about Victor Martinez. No sarcasm, no snark-casm, no bull. I was wrong. All through the preseason -- especially in back-and-forths on the Sporting News podcast with Matt Lutovsky -- I basically thought Martinez was done at 35 years old. Maybe it's because I turn 35 this year. Martinez is hitting .337 with 17 HRs and 45 RBIs. He's hitting .300 or better in every month and across all the major splits. Martinez is healthy, having logged most of his starts at designated hitter, and thriving in that coveted lineup spot behind Cabrera. It has all the makings of a career year, and should continue into the summer. Do not sell high." See, TMD, it isn't a bad thing to admit you were wrong. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/victor-ma...-comeback/ "Martinez has always had elite plate discipline and contact skills. This year, he’s figured out how to hit for power while actually improving his contact and plate discipline skills. Throw him a breaking pitch out of the strike zone and he just won’t swing at it. Throw him a fastball in the strike zone and he’ll make you pay. It’s tough to get Victor Martinez out. Almost every player in baseball would love to walk and hit dingers more often than they strike out. But only Victor Martinez, at 35, is actually doing it." Oh, but I'm sure TMD puts more research into things than Fangraphs (the best advanced statistics site out there). "STeroiiids!!" We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:http://www.sportingnews.com/fantasy/mlb/...r-martinez Sounds like something that might have been said about Barry Bonds in his late 30's.... :whistling: Martinez is having a career year at a time that he should be nearing retirement. Especially, given the position he played his entire career, and wear and tear/ injury effects that have accumulated over that span. Yeah....nothing suspicious at all about the above.... ![]() Juicin'
Lol rather than simply admitting you were wrong about vmart like national sports writers are doing, you are going to fabricate lies about a player being on steroids? Typical.
Quote:Lol rather than simply admitting you were wrong about vmart like national sports writers are doing, you are going to fabricate lies about a player being on steroids? Typical. ...considering the recent era we have witnessed, you'd have to be either a blind homer (which you might fit into this category) or just a damn fool to just accept Martinez' incredible season at his age at face value and not have any suspicions.
Find me a credible sports writer who shares your suspicions. I've linked several that attribute his season to being 100% healthy and playing DH rather than catcher.
The burden of proof is on you with this one, buffoon. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Find me a credible sports writer who shares your suspicions. I've linked several that attribute his season to being 100% healthy and playing DH rather than catcher. How many credible sports writers were writing articles making accusations about players like Bonds before the fact? I don't remember many. So thats a stupid thing to ask. Having suspicions over Martinez' career year at 35 is very reasonable. Not having suspicions about it given the era we're in would be buffoonish. ....lol...100% healthy, huh.....isn't that also a by product of jucin' too.... ![]() If just playing DH is the key/ fountain of youth.... then why didn't other Catchers like Bench and Piazza enjoy that route and have career years doing the same thing at that part of their careers?? Ans....its not the fountain of youth.....juicin', however, is. B)
Someone's bitter about being wrong. He's wrong about VMart so now VMart MUST be a liar and a cheater despite absolutely no indications besides TMD's gut feeling. Every expert I've read agrees that health + DH = a better explanation.
And another HR today.... lol. TMD, if VMart ever tests positive for PEDs (he won't), then we can nullify our bet. Until then, though, I'd hope that you to honor it.

Players usually don't "breakout" and have career years in their twilight years, unless......unless..... :whistling: We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Unless they spent a full year re-habbing and switched from the most grueling position in sports to the easiest position in sports.
Regardless, this all started by you claiming Victor Martinez wasn't a steal this fantasy season. Will you admit that you were wrong about that?
By the way, this hot streak didn't come out of nowhere.
Last year Pre All-Star Break: 353 ABs, .258 avg, .694 OPS, 8 HRs, 44 K Last year Post All-Star Break: 252 ABs, .361 avg, .913 OPS, 6 HRs, 18 K So it took him a half of a season to shake off the rust from: 1. Knee surgery 2. Missing an entire season Since then, the guy has been an absolute beast. I'm sure TMD will say "he probably found a "juice" over All-Star weekend!!".
Yo Tigers fan...
so whats your opinion on JD Martinez recent uptick? real or fluke?
Fluke. He is nothing more than a Brennan Boesch IMO. He has nice power but is never going to hit at a good enough average to be an All-Star level player. Brennan Boesch came out and raked like this his first year for the Tigers and a lot of Tigers fans crowned him as the next big thing. Hopefully fans don't do the same for J.D. because they will be in for a let down (as they were with Boesch). Nick Castellanos will be better long term.
If you mean fantasy purposes, then ride him while he's hot, but don't go dropping Encarnacion for him =p. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The 5 hole is open in that Tigers lineup, tho.....he might be able to snag it permanently. His K to walk ratio is horrible, but thats been the case for some HR hitters in the past, i.e. Dunn/ Howard/ etc etc...
Quote:LOL.... Now Michael Wacha on the DL.... this makes like double digits now in injury losses.... Its getting [BLEEP] old.... No one. NO ONE gets the kind of injury luck I do, in any of these fantasy sports.
Harper is injury prone and Fielder's weight issues were just begging for injury problems. Those were risky picks but yeah the rest of those are incredibly unlucky.
