Wow.....I didn't realize Robinson is still only 20 years old! 

 

If he develops on the field quickly, and is fortunate enough to avoid major injury, he could amass some hefty numbers by the time his career winds down. 

 

I'm a little surprised that you are surprised about the age of Robinson... with ANY draft pick or FA move the first thing I do is find their stats in college or the NFL... I knew Robinson age shortly after he was picked...

Most of the time I just assume that they are pretty much the standard 22/ 23 years old. I don't usually make much of an effort to focus on actual age unless I happen to hear one of the commentators making an issue of it one way or another regarding draft picks. For instance, I remembered hearing a LOT about Weeden's age coming into the league as well as Danny Watkins, because both of them were really old for incoming rookies. I also remember many people initially making a big deal about Gabbert being so young....unfortunately for us that one never really paid the benefits.

Did Robinson spend any time under Paterno, or was his entire college career under O'Brien?

 

Without looking it up 2011 was the year Joe Paterno got fired after 9 games into the season (I think it was the 9th game)... Robinson would have been a freshman then...

Yeah, you're right about that...but as said, I just didn't pay much attention to this one. To still be 20 years old at this stage of the game is a potential boon for the Jags and Robinson's career number total outlook.

That's certainly what we should be hoping for. Heck, we have a very young receiving group from top to bottom. If these guys pan out as a unit, this team is set for a long while barring injuries.

Like Bullseye said...this is the most promising WR group going back to 1996 that the Jags have had... it feels good, going into this year, that we do finally have a group with a lot of promise to it... if and I say if this group pans out the Jags will be set there for years to come... a very bright look into the future for the Jags at this position...

Like Bullseye said...this is the most promising WR group going back to 1996 that the Jags have had... it feels good, going into this year, that we do finally have a group with a lot of promise to it... if and I say if this group pans out the Jags will be set there for years to come... a very bright look into the future for the Jags at this position...

 

Yup.  It's funny how hard Coughlin tried to expand the receiving group beyond Smith and McCardell, and how miserably he failed in that effort.  Hopefully this group pans out because having that kind of depth at WR is an outstanding thing.

The cool thing is...if Blake also is the real deal (and stays healthy too), that combo will be together possibly for the duration of each's career. The Bortles to Robinson connection could conceivably still be relevant and going strong a full decade from now, given the age's of both.

Yeah TC failed at his try to expand the WR group but he did have Smith and McCardell... the group that's being expanded right now has no one like those two so any upgrade will be an improvement... the key to it all comes down to these rookies WR's developing and Shorts and Sanders take it to another level... but like we talked about... this is the most promising WR's brought into the Jags in a very long time...

 

This FO is doing it the right way, in my opinion, and the future does look bright for a change...

I like Mike Brown and Ace Sanders a lot. I believe they can be quality depth behind ARob Lee. This is the best receiving corps we've had in a long time hopefully the rookies pan out. I cannot wait to see them shine in preseason.

Yeah, Robinson's age just makes me like that pick more and more. 

 

Even back then when I assumed he was a little older, the Robinson pick was the one that really started making this Jags draft look really good.

I think that's part of where the vaunted "Gus Juice" comes into play. If Blake, Lee, and Robinson all reach their potential (Which I see as a top five QB, above average number one, and really good number two) then I think we'll have had at least a few deep playoff runs. If, then, the combination of Gus + Winning + The comradeship built over the years doesn't make them want to stay, then that's another issue.

Having a QB and WR both deserving top tier contracts would be a good problem to have.

Think about how Indianapolis kept Manning, Harrison, Wayne, and Clark all on the roster.

Hopefully both Caldwell and Gus are still with the Jags if all of this pans out... I don't see Caldwell just sitting on his hands and being "happy" with the roster if the Jags turn into a winner and a play-off team... I think he will always draft and develop, meaning he can keep the roster heading/staying stable just incase we lose one or two star players...
