Ace Sanders Facing Four Game Suspension

The problem with this is there is no easy answer.

There are two options open to the Jaguars, punish him or support him.

Punishing him (maybe even cutting him from the roster) might discourage others. But it might not. It might even encourage him to sort his life out. But it might not.

Similarly, supporting him might encourage him to turn his life around, but it might not.

Nothing is guaranteed and one player will respond in a different way to another.

At least The Jaguars appear to be consistent in the way they treat offences like this.

If you are going to be supportive on one player who steps out of line (for instance Blackmon) it would appear unfair to come down hard on a player who has committed a lesser offence (Sanders)

We'll just have to hope this is the last of the stupidity and that he responds to the situation like an adult.

I'd rather see CS3, Lee, and Robinson in 3 WR formations anyway

Prior to this announcement, does Sanders make any other NFL line up?

Well this thread is full of win.

I've been smoking for about twenty years and I'm clearly addicted, fortunately for me I can grow it myself having no problem whatsoever obtaining the product. Now the one thing I've learned about the reefers is that it effects people differently, so to speak about somebody else's experience with it would be irresponsible of me.

What sucks about the situation is that Sanders has only been a Jag for 16 months and has violated twice now. They sure put an air tight lid on that one. IMO his career as a Jag is pretty much over.

Yea, he makes at least a quarter of teams out there.

He'd be a 4th or 5th WR on several teams and a PR on a few more probably.

I agree. He's better than Mike Thomas, and he actually was coveted enough to garner the Jaguars a pick in trade.

Sanders actually played really well for a rookie on such a bad team.

He's not a difference maker, but for a mid round pick he contributes enough to justify his spot for now.

If the Jaguars could get a high enough pick for him they definitely should take it.

What does that have to do with the subject at hand?

just a jab at the trade shorts crowd. Imagine how our core would look without shorts with Blackmon and Ace suspended. You got 2 unproven rookies at 1 & 2. and Brown and Doss at 3 & 4. Not to mention Henne at QB.

You want to trade the only reliable WR on the roster that's proven himself a capable contributor in the NFL?

Seems counter-productive to me. I don't think Caldwell is that desperate for draft picks.

Every player has a price.

If I could get a commensurate value for Shorts I'd trade him without hesitation.

He's good, but he's not of limitless value.

Given the teams issues at WR  --  I'm very, very confident that there is not a team out there willing to give what he's currently worth to the Jaguars.

He'd be a #2 anywhere else. He will be here soon enough.  But for now, he's the best we have to offer until the rookies find their footing.

There's a price for that - but no team is going to pay it for Shorts.

Which has no bearing on my position.

I didn't say "GET RID OF HIM FOR WHATEVER CAN BE GOTTEN!" I said I'd trade him if someone were to offer the value that made it worthwhile.

That being said I think you have an inflated sense of his value. This is still a team in transition. A guy leading the team in receptions in a year that is likely to feature double digit losses again just doesn't increase his value for the long term.

I expect Lee and Robinson will both end up at least as good as Shorts, so if someone were to offer a first rounder or second and third rounder I think it's a deal that Caldwell would have to seriously consider.

Right, because Bradley is fine with losing 10 games this year.  No need to be competitive in the passing game while we transition right?

You undervalue the team's intention to be competitive while transitioning.  And Shorts is still quite young -  you assume he has diminishing value while his best seasons may lie ahead.

This is off topic - so I'll leave you to your opinions and let the thread return to Sanders.

Caldwell is an excellent GM precisely because he's not concerning himself with how many games the Jaguars are winning or losing this season.

Shorts value is relative to the guys he's competing with, and I believe Lee and Robinson will make him expendable.

Now we can get back to Ace.

Wow, shocking!   A Jaguar WR getting in trouble for drugs.  Who woulda thunk it??

Seriously though, it seems that marijuana is becoming an epidemic across the NFL.  Ridiculous.  How long before the NFL gives in and  makes it "legal" because the players won't stop smoking?

On another note, I guess this means Mike Brown is off the bubble and on the team for sure.

1. Shorts

2. Lee

3. Robinson

4. Doss

5. Brown

6. Sanders (suspended/reserve list)

"and wants to show everyone his commitment to the team..."

?

if having two offenses against NFL policy, with the second one resulting in a four game ban is 'showing everyone his commitment to the team', well.... then I guess we should all be apologizing to Blackmon; the dude was obviously a super committed to the team....

I y'ams who I y'ams and thats all I y'ams...

Right. I heard the conference call where he made his announcement, and he didn't sound like a guy that was really done being a dishonest problem to me. He did what everyone in the NFL does, he didn't get specific about what he did, he continually tried to use nebulous family matters and issues to distance himself from responsibility for his actions, and didn't put himself into the sort of corner that people in his situation really need to be in to make a change. Also he should have been clear about his violation. If it were smoking pot then he should have just said that's what it was.
