Worst Teams Tracker
|
We all know Jacksonville is not guaranteed to get the top pick just by having the worst record because Kansas City also was 2-14 last year and picked first. That means we have to worry about everyone else with the same or a similar record. I know I have said this before, but too many people are still not understanding it.
Only three teams are 3-9: the Redskins, Buccaneers, and Falcons. The Vikings are 3-8-1. So the question now is if they all win Sunday what will the draft order be? Only the Texans are 2-11 and their brutal remaining schedule almost guarantees they will get the #1 pick. Here are the 2013 schedules for all five teams. Bold = home game Italic = away game Underline = already played Jaguars: Chiefs, Raiders, Seahawks, Colts, Rams, Broncos, Chargers, 49ers, Titans, Cardinals, Texans, Browns, Texans, Bills, Titans, Colts Buccaneers: Jets, Saints, Patriots, Cardinals, Eagles, Falcons, Panthers, Seahawks, Dolphins, Falcons, Lions, Panthers, Bills, 49ers, Rams, Saints Texans: Chargers, Titans, Ravens, Seahawks, 49ers, Rams, Chiefs, Colts, Cardinals, Raiders, Jaguars, Patriots, Jaguars, Colts, Broncos, Titans Falcons: Saints, Rams, Dolphins, Patriots, Jets, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Panthers, Seahawks, Buccaneers, Saints, Bills, Packers, Redskins, 49ers, Panthers Based on these schedules, who do you think is the biggest threat to Jacksonville's chances of getting the #1 pick in May? These are some hard schedules. Clearly Bucs schedule seems the weakest, which is good because that's the only team that needs a QB. But It's hard to believe Roethlisburger and Manning are of any threat to be as terrible as we are reguardless of the schedule. If the Giants or Steelers do end up ahead of us, and they're not trying to draft their Aaron Rodgers, that may be a threat for a QB needy team to trade up. I like Bridgewater but I'm not sure I'm in Bridgewater or bust mode just yet. I think there's going to probably be other options at quarterback.

Thats funny because I look at the Bucs schedule and wonder where the next win is coming from.... Not bashing you, just pointing out that its weird how 2 people could look at the very same thing and come out with 2 very different opinions
Quote:Thats funny because I look at the Bucs schedule and wonder where the next win is coming from....I side with you more than his assessment, but Carolina is bad, and the Falcons could actually be winnable based on their offense. To me the Giants probably have the toughest road. A couple winnable games though....its not like they dont have the talent. They are just missing something. I think Coughlin needs a change of scenery. A coordinator spot in Jacksonville would be amazing.
Quote:I side with you more than his assessment, but Carolina is bad, and the Falcons could actually be winnable based on their offense. Yeah, that would be nice. I'd certainly trust Coughlin developing Teddy B....he did a pretty good job with Brunell.... That said....If Coughlin was fired by NY....he'd probably get another NFL HC position in 5 minutes...if Jerry would take his head out of his rear end, Coughlin to Dallas would make sense. Quote:Thats funny because I look at the Bucs schedule and wonder where the next win is coming from.... Yea. I kinda glanced at it. Looking it over, yea it's a bit more tricky.
Quote:Yeah, that would be nice. I'd certainly trust Coughlin developing Teddy B....he did a pretty good job with Brunell....I dont know if he would get one so quickly (or if he'd want one...) He is a big time family man and I know he comes to Jax quite a bit for different things. I could see him coming back down here to slow things down and think about retirement.
Really though, when I think about it, the Bucs are definately the biggest threat just due to how bad their offense has been. Is it possible they actually as bad as us right now?

While by no means am I currently predicting the Giants or Steelers to end up with the # 1 pick of the 2014 based on record, if either team gets the 1st pick, it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to start over. Hence, trading Eli Manning or Ben Roethlisberger. Both QB's will be entering their 11th NFL season in 2014. When a team is at the bottom of the league, starting over with a blue chip QB prospect probably makes the most sense if such a QB is available at the top of a given draft. I'd certainly trust Coughlin developing Teddy B....he did a pretty good job with Brunell.... Being that Jerry Jones hired 73 year old Monte Kiffin as Defensive Coordinator, I can envision him offering Tom Coughlin the HC job position despite Coughlin turning 68 next summer. Coughlin would be a huge upgrade over Jason Garrett, who probably is better suited to be an Offensive Coordinator.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

When a team is at the bottom of the league, starting over with a blue chip QB prospect probably makes the most sense if such a QB is available at the top of a given draft. There is now a report on NFL.com that the Steelers will send their GM to the Louisville/Rutgers game Thursday night. Apparently they want to do what Green Bay did with Aaron Rodgers. Of course, we are sending our GM there too. My opinion about Tampa Bay is they are the biggest threat because the Steelers and Giants don't have an immediate need for a quarterback upgrade. If the Steelers or Giants get the top pick, Clowney, not Bridgewater, will probably be picked first. Quote:Might be alone here, but I wouldn't mind Jason Garrett coming in as OC here. >_> In terms of Offensive Coordinators, the Jaguars or any team could do much worse than Jason Garrett. The concern I would have from a Jaguars perspective is would it be in the team's best interest to have yet another Offensive Coordinator and likely another Offensive System? While there's going to be several new starters on Offense for the Jaguars, including at QB, the remaining players would have to start over yet again. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Might be alone here, but I wouldn't mind Jason Garrett coming in as OC here.We can discuss that in a different thread, but all I can say about that now is CBS showed him many times all day and barely showed John Fox, so it is obviously bias when they decide who to focus on.
Quote:In terms of Offensive Coordinators, the Jaguars or any team could do much worse than Jason Garrett. It seems Jaguars fans already hate Jedd Fisch. How many times have we complained about play calls this year? But I don't know if Garrett would be a big upgrade or a little one. Quote:There is now a report on NFL.com that the Steelers will send their GM to the Louisville/Rutgers game Thursday night. Apparently they want to do what Green Bay did with Aaron Rodgers. Of course, we are sending our GM there too. At the very least, it makes sense for the Steelers to scout Teddy Bridgewater closely. I agree that of the 3 teams you mentioned, the Bucs have the most uncertainty at QB. Yet, any team that finishes with the worst record in the NFL and has a QB noticeably above 30 would need to seriously consider starting over at QB if a Franchise QB is there for the taking. Especially if the Franchise QB has the highest grade on the team's draft board.
Quote:In terms of Offensive Coordinators, the Jaguars or any team could do much worse than Jason Garrett. Fisch is on I believe a one year contract. I believe that Bradley was waiting for better candidates to be available. Would it be better for the Jaguars to keep Fisch for one more year, then force their young QB to switch systems a year in? Or better for the Jaguars to cut ties with Fisch and bring in a new OC with their new QB? Of course ideally Fisch would be a success, and we keep him and his system. However, I think that the best time for change may be now when we're getting a new QB, rather than after we've already gotten him.

However, I think that the best time for change may be now when we're getting a new QB, rather than after we've already gotten him. I agree that it would be better to change Offensive Coordinators when the building block at QB is brought in, compared to in year 2, 3, or 4 of the QB's new career. But like you said, ideally for the Jaguars, Jedd Fisch wouldn't warrant being replaced. The difficult part of the decision making process is how can a determination be made this season regarding whether Jedd Fisch is a long term solution as Jaguars Offensive Coordinator? The team's top 2 QB's on the depth chart are not remotely close to a solution. The RB that was the center piece of the Offense for years is currently not remotely close to the player he was prior to 2012. And the team's Offensive Line no longer has either starting Offensive Tackle. With major question marks in the interior of the O-Line. The job of Dave Caldwell and Gus Bradley to evaluate Jedd Fisch this season appears extremely difficult.
The more I look at all the other teams struggling, the more I'm convinced we won't be picking 1st overall.. I haven't looked closely at the SoS of other teams but I imagine they can't be tougher than ours.. our schedule is brutal. the combined record of opponents we've faced so far this year is 17-8 (22-8 if you count the Broncos). So unless we end up with the worst record in the league all by ourselves we'll likely be picking after whatever team has the same record as us.. and it's very likely we will finish 1-15 or 2-14.. which is what I figure the Bucs will finish... We really need to focus on tanking this season if we want Bridgewater.
10 years ago we had Bob Hope, Johnny Cash, and Steve Jobs..... Please don't die, Kevin Bacon.
Quote:Yeah, that would be nice. I'd certainly trust Coughlin developing Teddy B....he did a pretty good job with Brunell.... That would be upsetting. Steelers will get some wins, giants will too. Bucs need a win or two in division otherwise they'll be stiff competition. |
