Except that 28-year-old running backs with an injury history, especially those who are pretty clearly not the same back they were two years ago, don't often command the type of contract that yields a significant compensatory pick.

That probably will turn out to be the case.      I'm not expecting the Jaguars to get a 4th Round Comp. Pick.   

 

 Yet,  when comparing MJD's trade value now as he's dealing with another foot related injury,   AND is coming off a major foot injury from 2012,    at present it's hard to picture the Jaguars getting more than a 7th Round pick in a trade for him.        If the Jaguars hold on to MJD and he's in better health come the 2014 FA period,    maybe a team will sign him to a contract that leads to the Jaguars getting a 5th or 6th Round Comp Pick.        The latter  ( 6th Round Comp. )  is more realistic but under MJD's present circumstance,   it's the better alternative for the Jaguars than his present trade value.

Nobody would trade ANYTHING for him. Not even a 6th. I just don't see it. Why waste a draft pick when you can sign him cheap in the offseason? He should have been traded seasons ago, if only we knew we'd be in this situaion.

As suggested by a certain Mad Dog a couple of times; he was then ridiculed IIRC.

Also...good thing the Jags didn't cave on MJD's holdout last year- All In (except MJD)- we'd be saddled with a big contract now and an over the hill RB.

The only way I can see a team being willing to give up a high value pick - not saying a first round pick - is to a team that is a play off contender, wanting to fill a hole that will improve them. Teams I think of could be:

 

- Packers, granted Starks had a breakout game in week 2, but is he the long term guy?

- Rams, not sure if Richardson is a franchise back. 

- Steelers, a lack of a running game is hurting them big time. 

 

If any of those teams got a healthy [and in form] MJD, then they would have an elite RB, that can also be a good outlet in the passing game. Each of those teams would instantly be improved with MJD. Personally not sure what MJD's value is these days, but if he can prove his health and return to form, then a 2nd or 3rd round pick might be value for both sides.

 

That said, I would still rather see MJD remain on the team because he can still contribute and be an important part of this team.

You're nuts if you think MJD is worth more than a fourth-round pick, and that's only if the team acquiring him is beyond desperate at the position. As of right now, he's a 28-year-old RB with a lot of tread on the tires, a contract year and a significant injury history. If someone offered the Jags a five, they'd have to at least consider it.

No not worth a 1st. But a third is not out of the realms. Production alone is not an everyday replaceable rb.

How can anyone think MJD is worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder to ANYONE at this stage in his career?  He's coming off a major Lisfranc injury, he's hurt AGAIN right now, he lacks the burst he had when he was younger - and the RB position is devalued and more and more teams are going with a running back by committee approach.

 

Not to mention the fact that he's approaching 30, has a ton of carries/wear/tear, and it's his contract year. 

 

You get NOTHING for him in trade because no one wants him. 

 

At least we didn't give him a contract extension.  What a disaster that would have been.
