Training camp twitter updates

Quote:Um....do they even do 2 a days anymore??

I thought that the NFL largely legislated that out under the last CBA

Players are allowed to be on the field for four hours a day, per the CBA.    Although, most teams try to avoid it, because most scientific evidence shows that playing on fatigued muscles is the leading cause of soft tissue injuries and strains.    And any team that's owned by an owner like Kahn, who tries to be on the cutting edge of technology and research, will err on the side of science and evidence over "Just rub some dirt on it!!" meatball mentality.

They brought up the point in the scrimmage with all the predraft/post college grad stuff it's tough for

These guys to keep conditioned really well and that you typically see better conditioning/preperdness entering the second off season of a players career.

Its hard on your body. Running for hours at a time every day leaves you extremely sore. Plus add hitting and you are extra sore. A lot of soreness going on.

Trying to warm up your already worn out, sore muscles gets old after a couple days.
Yep.     Football is a sport of explosive movements and sprints at 100% effort, not jogging.   Anyone who's ever done High Intensity Interval Training  knows it's way more demanding than just basic prolonged repetitive cardio.   This isn't spending 45 minutes on your elliptical machine while watching Sportscenter at the neighborhood gym, although many teams do lift weights and work on their cardio aside from practice.

Also what separates these guys from regular joes,   other "athletes", or even previous generations of football players, is the mindboggling amount of weight and muscle mass they're carrying around which demands hydration and oxygen.  165 lbs. dudes look at a training camp practice and think they can do that.   Oh yeah?    Put on 150 lbs. of muscle and then give it a go.      Leonard Marshall was considered a physical freak of nature when he was playing 5 tech at 285.    Today, Red Bryant is playing the same position 40 lbs. heavier.

This is what you wanna hear.. *Bortles came back several plays after Gratz's interception and made a nice 10-yard throw on the run to wide receiver Chad Bumphis. Bortles also had a nice throw to a well-covered Kerry Taylor on the sidelines. …

I'm a little late today but here's some more:

@BigCatCountry: .@jpshadrick on #JaguarsToday saying he could see McClendon taking starting OC job from Mike Brewster. Great minds. https://t.co/quiwwdX8zL

@HaysCarlyon: Andre Branch made an impressive spin move on Austin Pasztor in 1-on-1 work today. Clemons got the better of Joeckel on both snaps.

they don't do 2 a days.

You can look at their schedule.

Additionally, you can watch the practices and they're not that hard honestly.  You'd be lucky to find more than 20% of the guys moving at one particular time.  They get 4-5 reps (max) and they get subbed out.

I really don't see what the gruesome part of training camp is nowadays.

Anyone who thought Brewster somehow "earned" the Center spot after getting his lunch stolen for 2 staight years in the NFL was dreaming.  He has shown multiple times that he's not strong enough to handle playing inside.

His move to Center and Jaguars.com forcefeeding to us that "Brewster looks like a capable" starter always has and always will be BS.

Our starting Center of the future just isn't on this roster, unless Bowanko develops better than the other guys.

They don't run for hours.  Practice lasts about 2 hours/day, and a significant amount of time is spent NOT running.

Also, what hitting?  You can probably count the number of hits that caused another person to fall to the ground on 1 hand, and that's including that scrimmage on Saturday.

I wonder what's with all the injuries? Seems like they are worse then last year. None of them seem serious though.

Ha I got some... just have to wait for the west coast to catch up.

@APMarkLong: Jaguars plan to test 4-Leo defensive front today, with Branch and Clemons outside and Davis and rookie Chris Smith inside

@APMarkLong: The experiment will come in 2-minute drills and says a lot about what the Jaguars think of Davis & Smith

@ryanohalloran: 1. DE Red Bryant had some scheduled days off built in, but instead has practiced every day.

@ryanohalloran: 2. Wash called DE Ryan Davis, "not a big surprise, but a good surprise." Playing inside on pass-rushing packages.
Reply

@ryanohalloran: Cyprien still expected to play a few snaps Friday night.

@ESPNdirocco: Nice deep sideline pass from Bortles to Brown. Dropped it right over the DB.

@ESPNdirocco: Marqise Lee tiptoes the sideline to make a catch.

@ESPNdirocco: Twice Denard Robinson and a QB have failed on a handoff.

@APMarkLong: Jaguars down another WR: Nathan Slaughter tweaks something in practice

@APMarkLong: Jaguars coach Gus Bradley on DE Tyson Alualu: "he has not had a bad day of camp."
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Reply

@ryanohalloran: 4. Wash likes rookie DE Chris Smith "speed to power" transition as pass rusher. Test be will ability to stop the run on early downs.

@SonsOfKHANarchy: Denard is warming up his arm #QBControversy #Jaguars

@HaysCarlyon: Brandon Linder practicing.

@HaysCarlyon: Toby Gerhart remains sidelined.

@HaysCarlyon: Austin Pasztor getting day off.

@HaysCarlyon: Allen Hurns getting the day off.
