I think their is a bigger difference in cars then people but the effect is still probably miminal. I think mental and human skin do make a big difference. Also the placebo effect that an earlier poster mentioned should be taken into account as well. I wonder what the stat line is for win percentage when wearing a color advantage in hot games.

In fact, the car test proves a lot since the exterior color made a difference of 10 degrees on the interior. The exterior must have been much hotter to do that.

It's about the material, duncecap.  With clothing, there's no significant difference.  But you can make clothing cooler by changing the material, not the color.

 

But then, you're so "smart" you've got it all figured out already.

More important than color in heat absorption, is the chemical property of the material. Where say, carbon steel will absorb heat better than a plastic or wood, you must look at the materials of the jerseys. The new fabrics used in athletic wear (especially football jerseys) are designed to deflect light - no matter the color. Add in these jerseys are only millimeters thick - atop pads, undershirts and other athletic equipment - it does not make a difference.

No, black makes a difference. People have used temp guns on hot days to measure temp of the shirt. The black shirt can be as much as 30 degrees hotter.


Try again. Just admit you were wrong and move on. It would save a lot of embarrassment.

No matter the material, both teams are wearing the same material. So however minimal black vs white makes, its still a difference. Why not use it?


And people need to stop acting like they know how minimal the difference is with modern material. You dont know. What we do know is that it does matter if its black.
